What started as a chilly, dreary Friday at Grube Field quickly shifted as sunlight burst onto the playing field. The Rams’ Logan Stein notched his fifth win of the season, overpowering the visiting Ottawa-Glandorf Titans in an 8-2 victory.
After a quiet first inning, the Rams got rolling with two runs in the bottom of the second to grab an early 2-0 lead.
Allan Burchfield, the Owens CC commit, doubled to start the frame. Owen Ferrell moved Burchfield over to third on a groundout to first. After a Kolten Snyder lineout, Jared Neff was hit by a pitch. Tinora pulled the double steal. Neff stole second, and on the throw through, Burchfield stole home for the first run of the contest. Senior second baseman Avery Moser followed with an RBI single, scoring Neff. The Rams led 2-0 after two innings.
Tinora tacked on two more runs in the third inning, seizing a 4-0 lead. Ryan Mills, who reached base all four times, sparked the rally with a leadoff single. Parker Hancock drew a one-out walk, and Owen Ferrell followed with another walk to load the bases against Titans starter Ethan Kuhlman. Kuhlman then forced in Mills with a bases-loaded walk, as Snyder earned the RBI for a 3-0 Rams advantage. Parker Hancock then darted home on a throwing error by Titans catcher Landon Pester. Tinora stood on top 4-0 through four.
With Stein in total control on the mound for the host Rams, Tinora added a single run in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-0 advantage. Mills drew a two-out walk from Titans reliever Haiden Aldrich. Owen Reynolds smashed his eighth double of the season, scoring Mills.
The visiting Titans finally got to Stein with two runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap to 5-2. The first two OG hitters reached to start the inning. Gran Leopold and Landon Pester both singled. Both scored on a hard-luck error by the Rams’ infield.
Tinora responded with a three-run sixth to take an 8-2 lead. Avery Moser began the rally with a one-out hustle double and scored on a Stein RBI single, making it 6-2 Rams. Ryan Mills then collected his third hit of the game, a liner to left, moving Stein to third. Stein crossed home on an Owen Reynolds fielder’s choice for a 7-2 Tinora lead, and Parker Hancock’s RBI sac fly brought in Mills for the final run.
Owen Reynolds came on in relief in the top of the seventh for the Rams, retiring all three hitters he faced, closing out the 8-2 Tinora win.
Ottawa-Glandorf falls to 9-8, the Titans will host Coldwater on Saturday at 11 am.
The Rams improve to 12-3-1. Tinora gets a few days off before five games next week.
