HAVILAND: Tinora senior righty Mason McQuillin took a shutout into the seventh inning before Brody Rosswurm’s two run homerun ended the McQuillin shutout bid as the Tinora Rams knocked off the three time defending GMC Champions on the road, 8-2.
The Ram bats were cooking early as Ayden Mosier led off the game against Wayne Trace starter Carter Clemens with an opposite field single. After Alec Schaublin reached via fielders choice, followed by a walk to Hunter Bostelman, teammate Adam Spychala ripped an opposite field triple, scoring both Schaublin and Bostelman for an early 2-0 Rams lead.
Mason McQuillin would help his our cause as he smashed an RBI single to left, plating Spychala for a 3-0 Tinora lead after one half inning of play.
Wayne Trace loaded the bases in the bottom of the third off McQuillin as Rosswurm, Laukhuf, and Clemens all reached with just one out. The Rams got out of the game as McQuillin used two straight flyouts to keep the 3-0 advantage through three innings.
Tinora’s Ayden Moser would single and then watch Alex Schaublin crush an opposite field two-run homerun of Clemens in the top of the fifth for a 5-0 Rams lead.
Tinora would add another in the fifth run as McQuillin’s double and hustle from second on a wild pitch capped the three run inning for a 6-0 Rams lead.
Wayne Trace would again threaten, this time in the bottom of the fifth as they would again load the bases with two outs. Rosswurm, Laukhuf, and Gerber all reached before McQuillin would get a groundout to end the Raiders threat, holding the Tinora 6-0 advantage through five innings of play.
The only blemish off Tinora starter Mason McQuillin came in the bottom of the seventh as leadoff hitter Brody Rossworm would send a pitch over the right field wall for a two-run homer.
Parker Hancock would come in and get the final three outs for Tinora, preserving the Rams 8-2 win.
Tinora’s Schaublin would knock in three in the win.
Tinora improves to 5-2, 2-0 in the GMC. The Rams will host Paulding Friday at 5 pm in a makeup game.
Wayne Trace drops to 6-4, 1-1 in conference play. The Raiders will travel to Van Wert on Monday.
