One benefit of winning postseason baseball games is bonus regular-season games. On Tuesday at Grube Field at Tinora High School, the Tinora Rams and the Edgerton Bulldogs met in a tune-up game.

Edgerton Bulldogs are still alive in the DIV VII playoffs. They will take on the North Central Eagles on Thursday in Bryan. The Tinora Rams, from DIV V, will play the Fairview Apaches at Defiance High School.

Edgerton started strong with a one-run first inning. Leadoff hitter Maddux Baker singled off Tinora Rams starter Owen Reynolds. Parker Elden followed with an RBI single, giving Edgerton a 1-0 lead.

Tinora answered with a two-run bottom of the first to take a 2-1 advantage. Logan Stein and Ryan Mills drew back-to-back walks from Edgerton starter Kellen Sanchez. Both advanced on a wild pitch. Parker Hancock tied the game at 1-1 with an infield RBI groundout. Allen Burchfiel’s RBI single brought in Mills for a 2-1 lead.

Edgerton scored three unearned runs in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead. Myles Baker began with a leadoff double. Bryce Schoeder followed with a single, putting runners at the corners. Tucker Curl reached on catcher’s interference, loading the bases with one out. Maddux Baker reached on a Tinora outfield error, scoring Myles Baker and making it 3-2. Parker Elden’s RBI single to right brought in Maddux Baker for a 4-2 Edgerton lead.

Tinora chipped away by adding a run in the third. Owen Reynolds led off with a double. Parker Hancock’s infield groundout advanced Reynolds to third. After a strikeout, Reynolds scored on a wild pitch from Bulldog reliever Parker Elden. This trimmed Edgerton’s lead to 4-3.

Tinora took a 5-4 lead with two runs in the fifth. Parker Hancock drew a one-out walk and stole second. After a groundout, Owen Ferrell delivered an RBI single to right field to tie the game at 4-4. Kolten Snyder’s flyball to right was misplayed, letting Ferrell score the go-ahead run. Tinora led 5-4 after five innings.

Owen Ferrell pitched three solid innings of relief, pitching from the third to the fifth, allowing just one hit.

Grady Stark came in to pitch for Tinora at the start of the sixth. Myles Baker doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch. Ferrell made back-to-back great plays at shortstop, keeping Baker at third with two outs. Stark then induced an inning-ending groundout to keep the score at 5-4.

Stark would retire the visiting Bulldogs in order in the seventh for the save.

Edgerton falls to 12-12. They will take on North Central at 7 pm on Thursday.

Tinora improves to 18-5. They will take on rival Fairview on Thursday at DHS at 4:30 pm.

The Higbea Emprodery Player of the Game was Owen Ferrell for his great pitching, timely hitting, and strong defense.
