Tinora vs. Fairview, no matter what the sport, what season it is or was, these two teams will give 110% to ensure their teams come out on top when playing each other.
Tinora’s Brent Renollet and Fairview’s Andy Singer have a combined 47 seasons of coaching, and also have a combined 793 wins entering play at Grube field. It’s like watching a chess match, a mirror image of both coaches when this game is on the schedule.
Tinora wasted little time, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first off Apache starter Cole Mack to grab a 3-0 lead after one. Leadoff man AYden Moser got the Ram train rolling as he reached on an Apache infield error. Moser would score on an RBI single by Alec Schaublin. Hunter Bostelman would follow with a hit by pitch, putting Tinora runners on first and second. After a walk to Parker Hancock loaded the bases with two out, Both would score on a two run single by Adam Spychala, giving the Rams that 3-0 lead.
Fairview would immediately respond, scoring three runs to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the second off Tinora starter, Hunter Bostelman. Noah Shininger starting the uprising with a leadoff double. Logan Olinger would single, both Shininger and Olinger scored on a double by Jessie Coolman to cut the Rams lead to 3-2. Coolman would tie the game 3-3 on an infield error by Tinora.
Fairview grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth. Logan Olinger would double, move to second after Breaven Williams was hit by a pitch, and score on an infield error by the Rams.
The Rams would answer right back, tying the game 4-4 after four. Adam Spychala’s leadoff single started the inning. Conor Wolfrum’s sacrifice moved Spychala to second and would score on an Ayden Moser single to left.
In the back and forth serve, it was Fairview who came back and grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth. Drayten Grinnell-Dennis led off the inning with a walk, moved to second on a single by Jude Shininger, and score on another Tinora error, their third of the game.
It was Tinora’s turn in the bottom of the fifth, and they did just that, tying the game and eventually taking a 6-5 lead after five innings of play. Mason McQuillin would reach with a one out error, he moved to second on a Parker Hancock single. Adam Spychala’s single would plate McQuillin, knotting the game at 5-5. The Rams were not done as pinch hitter BJ Morlock would line a double down the left field line, scoring Hancock to put the Rams ahead 6-5 after five.
Of course, Fairview would tie the Teeter Totter game, as they scored a single run in the top of the sixth. Jessie Coolman would double. Tinora made a switch and brought in a relief pitcher, Alec Schaublin, to finish the sixth. Coolman came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of teammate Zane Timbrook, the teams were locked at 6-6.
The Rams would match the Apaches and score two runs to take an 8-6 lead after six. The inning started with a Kadyn Radzik double, followed by a Schaublin walk. After a pitching change as Jude Shininger came in, Tinora’s Radzik moved to third on a wild pitch and would score on a Mason McQuillin sacrifice, giving the Rams a 7-6 lead. Packer Hancock would single and drive in Schaublin from second to put the Rams on top 8-6 through six innings.
Fairview would not go quietly in their last at bat, a leadoff walk by Jude Shininger got things stirring in the Tinora bullpen. Junior Rams righty Alex Schaulbin however stopped the Apache rally, retiring the next three Fairview apaches, preserving the Tinora 8-6 come from behind win.
Tinora improves to 13-4 with the win. The Rams travel to Ottoville Thursday to take on the Biog Green. The Rams also keep their slim GMC title hopes alive, improving to 4-1.
Fairview drops to 11-3, 2-3 in conference play. The Apaches will host Liberty Center on Thursday.
