Van Buren, 13-7 coming in, came out swinging as they knocked three solo homeruns over the first two innings to take an early 3-1 lead over the Lady Rams.
Tinora freshman starter Carlie Roehrig settled down, pitching four strong innings before Zoe Billings hurled the final three innings in the Lady Rams 6-5 win.
The Lady Rams hosted the Future Lady Rams as the 8U and 10U teams. The younger Lady Rams had a fantastic time as they dreamed about one day taking the field that their stars were playing on Friday evening.
Van Buren’s Jordan Patton and Megan Stall launched solo homers in the top of the first to grab an early 2-0 lead over the host Lady Rams.
Tinora answered in the bottom of the first on a RBI by Billings, scoring Paige Gamby who reached via an infield error by Van Buren. The Lady Rams trailed 2-1 after one inning of play.
The Black Knights Morgan Walters continued the hot bats, hitting a solo shot to increase the Van Buren lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning.
Tinora exploded for three runs in the bottom of the second to grab a 4-3 lead. Two Black Knight errors led to two unearned runs. Savannah Schroeder singled, Nahla Flanery and Christina Meyer both reached to start the inning via error and both came around to score. Schroeder’s single plated Flanery, while Meyers scored on a RBI double by by Madison Spangler, the Lady Rams led 4-3 after two innings.
Van Buren added a solo run in the top of the third to tie the game at 4-4. Jordan Patton would single and score on a RBI by Megan Stall,
Back and forth the teams went, The Black Knights took a 5-4 lead with a single run in the top of the fourth. Andrea Groman singled and scored on a RBI by Ava DeCooman.
Tinora sophomore Madison Spangler, who nearly missed a homerun earlier, smashed a Stall pitch over the center field wall to tie the game at 5-5 after four innings of play.
The Lady Rams broke the 5-5 tie with a single run in bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Savannah Schroeder who plated Zoe Billings who singled to start the bottom of the fifth.
Van Buren threatened but did not score in the top of the seventh. The Black Knights had runners on second and third with two outs before Billings induced a groundball out to end the threat, ending the game.
Billings hurled three scoreless innings in picking up the win, allowing just two hits while striking out five batters.
The Lady Rams displayed fantastic defense throughout the game, great plays by Knapp, Gamby, and Spangler saved multiple runs.
Tinora improves to 9-10. The Lady Rams will host Swanton on Saturday at 11 am.
Van Buren falls to 13-8. The Black Nights will travel to Eastwood on Monday.
The Player of the Game went to freshman starter Carlie Roehrig who limited the high powered Black Knights offense to just four runs. Congratulations a a fantastic start!
