SHERWOOD – The Tinora Rams used a big six run first inning as they held on for a 9-4 road win over the rival Fairview Apaches. The Rams sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning, collecting six runs on just three hits off Fairview starter Cole Mack.

Tinora Leadoff hitter Ayden Moser would walk to start the first frame, followed by Alex Schaublin and Hunter Bostelman who would be hit by pitches to load the bases with no outs. After a flyout off the bat of Adam Spychala, Mason McQuillin would reach on a Apache infield throwing error for a 1-0 Ram advantage.

Owen Ferrell would follow with an RBI single, scoring Schaublin for a 2-0 Tinora lead. Logan Stein would step up and rip the first pitch he would see from Mack into leftfield for a 4-0 Tinora advantage.

Trenton Delarber would double in Ferrell and Stein for a 6-0 Tinora lead, Mack would throw 39 pitches in the opening inning.

Tinora starter Mason McQuillin would wiggle out of a jam in the bottom of the first. The first two Apaches would reach, Logan Olinger and Cole Mack. But, McQuillin would get a line drive double play to escape any damage. Elijah Arend would send a liner at Rams third baseman Adam Spychala who would step on the bag and throw to first for a double play.

The Rams defense was nearly flawless through the first four innings, making difficult plays look easy. Tinora would take a 6-0 lead through four innings.

Tinora’s MAson McQuillin, coming off a big win Thursday at Wayne Trace, would go the first four innings, limiting the Apaches to no runs on just three hits.

The Apaches would finally get on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fifth of Rams relief pitcher Parker Hancock. Anthony Singer would single to start the Fairview fifth, followed by an infield error by Tinora. The Apaches had two runners on with no outs. Zane Timbrook would collect an RBI single, scoring Singer, Fairview trailed 6-1.

The Apaches would load the bases off Hancock with no outs, but again, the stellar Tinora defense would get another double play to limit the damage. Jesse Coolman, who earlier was hit, would score on a bases loaded walk to close the gap to 6-2. Hancock would get out of the jam with a flyout,

Tinora would not score again until the top of the seventh. The Rams would add three insurance runs for a 9-2 lead. Avery Moser would single to start the uprising. Moser would score on a Schaublin double for a 7-2 Tinora lead.

Mason McQuillin would collect two RBI on a squeeze bunt down the first base line that would hug the line and stay fair, scoring both Hunter Bostelman and Schaublin for a 9-2 Tinora lead.

With Hancock still on the mound for the Rams, Fairview’s Jesse Coolman would reach on an error, followed by Logan Olinger and Jonah Shininger being hit by pitch to l,oad the bases with one out.

Hunter Bostelman would come on to close out the seventh inning and get the final two outs for the Rams but not before the Apaches would plate two runs to close the gap to 9-4. The Rams would commit another infield error allowing two runs to score on a failed double play attempt.

Bostelman would strike out the final Apache hitter with a runner on first base,

Fairview defeated Montpelier on Monday in 11 innings, 7-1.

Tinora improves to 8-3, 4-0 in the GMC. The Rams have another big GMC game on Thursday at Edgerton.

Fairview falls to 9-1, 2-1 in the conference. Fairview will travel to Paulding Thursday.
