DEFIANCE – The Lady Rams jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after just one inning of play and held on for an 8-4 win over the Bulldogs of Defiance.

The Lady Rams sent eight hitters to the plate in the top of the first inning, started by a single by leadoff hitter Christina Meyer. Meyer would steal second base and score the first run of the game on a passed ball. Paige Gamby, who walked and stole second base as well, came around to score on a hustle play on the same wild pitch, Tinora led 2-0.

After a Skylea Zolman walk, Tinora’s Maddison Spangler would narrowly miss a two-run homer, hitting the very top of the left field fence, she would settle for a double, Zolman would score, giving the Lady Rams a 3-0 advantage. Freshman Zoe Billings would single in Spangler to close out the Tinora scoring in the top of the first, the Lady Rams led 4-0.

Defiance would break through with a single run in the bottom of the second. Taighen Zipfel would single, Paulina George, running for Zipfel would score on a Elley Ward single, cutting the Tinora lead to 4-1 after two innings.

Tinora would score a single run in the top of the third to increase their lead to 5-1. Paige Gamby would triple to start the inning. Gamby would come around to score on a Skylea Zolman hit an error by Defiance, the Lady Rams grabbed a 5-1 lead after three.

Tinora would plate another single run in the top of the fifth as Gamby again singled, and would score on a Zolman double. Tinora led 6-1 after five innings of play at a windy, chilly Defiance High School,

The Lady Rams put up two runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Defiance defense would commit two errors, allowing Norden and Gamby to reach. Norden would come around to score on the first Bulldog error, given the Lady Rams a 7-1 lead. Tinora would plate their eight run on a Scylea Zolman ground out.

Defiance would make things interesting in the final inning as they would score three runs to cut the Lady Rams lead to 8-4. Defiance’s Ellie Ward would score on an Amira Jallad double, Tinora would lead 8-2. Jallad would score on a Tinora error, the Bulldogs cut the lead to 8-3.

Bella Gutierrez would single to knock in Taylor Bibler, who reached via error, the run cut the Tinora lead to 8-4. Scylea Zolman would record the final two outs, picking up her second win of the season. Zolman struck out 13 batters in the win.

Tinora improves to 2-0. Tinora will travel to Elmwood on Tuesday.

Defiance falls to 2-2. The Bulldogs will host Celina on Tuesday.
