NAPOLEON – In their annual Veterans Game, the Napoleon Wildcats baseball program honored the Napoleon American Legion Post 300, Ted Rhors, and Eli Shadle in a fantastic pregame ceremony prior to their game vs. the visiting Tinora Rams.
On the field, the Wildcats were the beneficiary of five Tinora Rams errors en route to a 9-5 win over the Rams.
Junior leadoff hitter Trey Rubinstein got things rolling for the Wildcats in the bottom of the first inning. After drawing a leadoff walk, Rubinstein stole second base, went to third on a Tinora throwing error on the steal, and scored on a second Rams error on the play as the throw from centerfield went to the third base fence. Napoleon grabbed an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
As starter Trey Rubinstein struggles with his control to start the second inning, Tinora’s Rylee Peters gave the Rams a 2-1 lead with a two out, two RBI single in the top of the second. Scoring on the play for Tinora were Adam Spychala and Mason McQuillin.
The Wildcats would respond with a five run second, taking a 7-2 lead. The Wildcats would send 10 batters to the plate, highlighted was a Rubinstein RBI single and a two RBI double by Parker Woods in the inning.
Napoleon would knock out Tinora starter Alec Schaublin after two innings of work, Hunter Bostelman would come on to work for Tinora.
The Wildcats would plate two more runs in the bottom of the third, taking a commanding 8-2 lead over the visiting Rams. Rubinstein would again cause more havoc as he had another RBI single, while also scoring a run in the third.
Tinora would try to mount a rally in the fifth. After the Wildcat starter, Trey Rubinstein was relieved by Parker Woods, Tinora would load the bases with just one out in the fifth. Hunter Bostelman would get an RBI on a bases loaded walk, closing the gap to 8-3, scoring was Alex Homier.
Blaine Ford would receive Woods with two outs in the fifth and would immediately balk in a run, scoring for the Rams was Ayden Moser, the Rams still had the bases loaded and cut the deficit to 8-4. Ford would work out of the jam, keeping the score at 8-4 through five.
Napoleon would score the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. After his third single, Trey Rubinstein was caught off first base on a steal attempt. Unfortunately for Tinora, they would commit another error, allowing Rubinstein to score all the way from first base, his fourth run of the game, increasing the Napoleon lead to 9-4 after five innings.
Blaine Ford for would close out the Rams over the final two innings, allowing just a sixth inning single to Alex Homier as the Wildcats defeated the Rams, 9-4.

Loss: Alec Schaublin
Tinora falls to 3-2. The Rams will travel to Elmwood Saturday to take on the Royals at 11 am.
Napoleon improves to 4-1. The Wildcats will make the short trip to Defiance to take on the Bulldogs, first pitch is 12 pm Saturday.
