WEST UNITY: The Tinora Lady Rams basketball team picked up their first win of the new season with a dominating road performance at Hilltop.

Tinora used a strong defensive effort, and a great second quarter on the way to a solid 65-32 win over the Cadets.

Tinora’s fantastic defensive effort by Addison Lee and Julia Durfey held first team Buckeye Border Conference member, and possible player of the year, Libbie Baker to just on field goal, and six free throws for eight total points.

After Hilltop’s Baker collected two quick fouls in the first 2 minutes of the game, she was held on the bench by Hilltop coach Bill Williams until the four-minute mark in the second quarter.

The Lady Rams opened an 11-9 lead after the initial quarter. A tough, in the face defense by Coach Thiel’s Lady Rams forced multiple turnovers by the Cadets in the first eight minutes.

The second quarter saw Tinora turn more Cadet turnovers into points as they outscored Hilltop 21-6, grabbing a 32-15 lead as they headed to the locker room.

Tinora was paced in the first half by Addison Lee and Karli Okuley, each had nine points for the Lady Rams. Hilltop was led by Brynn Rodriguez with fie first half points.

The second halfstarted with a Karli Okuley steal and layup, the Lady Rams were off and running again in the third quarter. Okuley would finish with 11 points on the night. Addison Lee would remain hot for the Lady Rams in the third quarter, driving and scoring, Lee would add 13 second half points on her way to a career high 22.

The Lady Rams would exit the third quarter with a 49-22 lead, outscoring the Cadets 17-7, grabbing a commanding lead. The quarter was plagued with fouls by both teams, neither team seemed to be able to find a constant rhythm with all the whistles in the second half.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Rams starters exit midway through, on their way to a 65-32 win over a solid Hilltop Cadets team.

A fantastic team win for the Lady Rams hoop team.

The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game went to both Addison Lee and Julia Durfey. Lee’s career high, and Julia Durfey provided great defense against one of the area’s more dominant scorers over the last 2 seasons.

Tinora improves to 1-1 and will play host to Continental on Thursday.
NOTE: JV just 2 quarters Thurs.

Hilltop falls to 0-4 and will travel to North Central on Tuesday, 12/5.
