DEFIANCE: For the third time in four years, the Tinora Rams baseball team made the short trip across the Maumee River to take part in the annual Prep Baseball Ohio Classic. Tinroa played St. Henry in 2022 and West Jefferson a season ago in the Classic.

Ottawa Hills entered as the #24 team in DIV V this week, while the Rams were #25 in the PBR poll.

Sophomore Owen Reynold took the ball for the Rams. He would face Toby Stevens, a First Team All-State pitcher from a season ago for the Green Bears.

Tinora struck first with a single run in the top of the second. Ryan Mills would reach via a hit by pitch from Stevens. He would reach second on a great sac bunt from Jared Neff and score on a two-out RBI single from Avery Moser.

The Rams lead grew to 4-0 with three more runs off Stevens in the top of the third. A one out double by Reylolds started the inning. Parker Hancock followed with an RBI double, scoring Reynolds and giving the team a 2-0 lead. A walk to Allan Burchfield would give the Rams attack two on with one out. An RBI single by Ryan Mils increased the lead to 3-0, scoring for Tinora was Parker Hancock. The Rams third run in the inning came as Burchfield would score on a delayed double steal. Mills started for second base but stopped, allowing Burchfield to score from third as the throw came to second; Mills was in safely. Tinora led 4-0 into the bottom of the third.

Ottawa Hills plated one run of Reynolds in the bottom of the fourth. John Denny walked, stole second, and came around to score on an infield error by the Rams. Reynolds struck out the final two batters, holding the 4-1 lead.

Toby Stevens would pitch the first four innings, allowing four runs, striking out five. John Denny would come in relief.

The Green Bears looked like they were going to rally in the bottom of the fifth as the Tinora defense took a vacation inning. The Rams committed three separate errors, but Reynolds battled through, allowing just one unearned run.

Colin Prevete started the fifth inning with a single, stole second, and was followed by another single from Finn Genzman. A sac fly off the bat of Gabe Grim scored Genzman, but the Rams still lead 4-1. Tinora would commit two more errors in the inning, allowing the Green Bears to load the bases with two outs. Reynolds again would get out of the jam, getting a foul out to end the inning.

Reynolds would exit after five innings pitched, allowing just the two runs, striking out eight.

Owen Ferrell would come in for Tinora, working the final two innings for the save. Ferrell would throw two innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out three.

Tinora improves to 7-2-1. The Rams have a busy week ahead. Monday @ Montpelier, Tuesday at Hicksville, Thursday at Ayersville, Friday at Napoleon, and Saturday at home vs Kalida.

Ottawa Hills drops to 6-3. The Green Bears will host Findlay on Monday.
