The Tinora Rams rallied from down 6-0 to defeat the visiting Swanton Bulldogs on a gorgeous Thursday evening at Grube Field at Tinora High School.
The Bulldogs, now 14-8, scored twice in the first inning off Tinora starter Owen Reynolds. After two outs, Swanton strung together three straight hits. Carson Lemons and Carson Bond singled and advanced on a balk, then Owen Hurst delivered a two-run single for an early 2-0 lead.
Swanton scored four more runs in the second, sending eight to the plate but collecting just one hit for a 6-0 lead.
Tinora responded with four runs in the bottom of the second. Allan Burchfield led off with a single, Owen Ferrell doubled, and Jared Neff drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Logan Stein singled in two more, narrowing the gap to 6-4.
After Ryan Mills reached on an error and Reynolds walked, Parker Hancock drew another walk, which drove in Stein, narrowing Swanton’s lead to 6-5 and loading the bases for the Rams.
Tinora added two more runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 6-6. Kaden Massengale and Jared Neff began the inning with walks, prompting the Rams to chase starter Carson Lemons. Dennis Robinson came on in relief for Swanton. Neff then walked to load the bases. Avery Moser was hit by a Robinson pitch, earning an RBI and reloading the bases. Massengale scored the tying run at 6-6 when Logan Stein grounded out into a double play.
Swanton retook the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth. Luke Marlow led off by being hit by a pitch from Reynolds. Brady O’Shea followed with a single, advancing Marlow to third with no outs. Carson Lemons then hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Marlow to score and putting the Bulldogs ahead 7-6.
Tinora tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single by Avery Moser, scoring Neff, who was hit by a pitch from Robinson.
Tinora would add some excitement as well as pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-7 lead. Reynolds started the inning with a leadoff double. Parker Hancock followed with a single after Burchfield lined out for the first out of the inning, and Reynolds scored on a wild pitch to give the Dodgers an 8-7 lead. Owen Ferrell’s bunt would plate pinch runner Grady Stark from third, and a 9-7 Rams advantage. The final run of the thrilling inning came on a perfect Jared Neff bunt, plating Ferrell and a 10-7 Rams lead through six innings.
Owen Reynolds came out to start the seventh inning, but was removed for relief pitcher Parker Hancock after two Bulldogs reached with just one out. Hancock would walk the first batter he faced, Brendon Upham, to load the bases. On the play, Lemons would score on a throwing error by catcher Burchfield on the play, cutting the Tinora lead to 10-8. Hancock would get a fielder’s choice for the second out of the inning. Drew Koder would collect an RBI on a two-out single to center, cutting the Rams’ lead to 10-9.
Hancock would be removed due to injury, but would remain in the game at first. Coach Eric Tipton brought in Owen Ferrell in an attempt to get his third save of the season. With runners on first and second, Ferrell would get the save on a strikeout for the final out, preserving the Rams 10-9 win.
Swanton drops to 14-9 and will travel to Fostoria on Friday.
Tinora improves to 16-3-1 and visits Sumter Field in Bryan on Friday to face the Golden Bears.
