The Tinora Lady Rams made the trip to Paulding on Tuesday to take on the Panthers as the Lady Rams started their GMC season vs the 5-2 Panthers.
After overnight rains and another rainfall during the afternoon, the great crew at Paulding did a fantastic job getting the playing field ready for play as the Lady Rams unloaded the bus.
As the sun rained down on Iler field, the Panthers came out swinging to take a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. Civil Pumphrey singled and scored on a Tea Mendez double for a 1-0 lead.
Mendez would score on a single by Candence Schwab for a 2-0 Panthers advantage. Isa Burch, who was running for Mariah Klopfenstein, who previously walked, would score along with Menzed on a Tinora infield error, and a 4-0 lead after one.
Paulding’s lead grew to 5-0 in the bottom of the second. Pumphrey would double and score on another RBI by Mendez of Lady Rams starter Zoe Billings.
Paulding added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 7-0 lead over Tinora. Baylor Kilgor singled, stole second base, and scored on a two-run homer off the bat of Civil Pumfrey.
The Lady Rams offense kept Mendez and the Panthers on their toes for the first five innings. Although the senior Mendez pitched a shutout, she battled baserunners the entire game. The Tinora offense stranded a total of 12 runners, leaving the bases loaded two times, in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Ram offense also stranded two runners in the first and third innings.
Tia Mendez would get the win, tossing six innings before the lightning and rain came in the bottom of the sixth. She would strike out nine Lady Rams, while allowing four hits. Mendez was also 3-3 at the plate, scoring a run while collecting two RBI.
Tinora falls to 4-7 overall, 0-1 in the GMC. Tinorfa will host Wayne Trace on Thursday.
Paulding improved to 6-2, 1-1 in the GMC. The Panthers will travel to Hicksville on Thursday.
