A great crowd was on hand on a Friday night from Tinora as they witnessed the Rams biggest scoring output of the season as the Rams collected their first GMC win of the season, a 63-56 win over Edgerton.
The packed house was to see a night full of activities, two separate twirling acts, honoring the Lady Rams GMC volleyball championship, and lastly, honoring the three state cross-country members Lauren Sattler, Paul Westrick, and Jaxen Durfey. Congratulations gain to all.
The Rams hoops team was looking for their first win of the GMC campaign, coming in 0-5. 4-13 on the season. The visiting Bulldogs of Edgerton were also looking to get in the win column in the conference, coming in at 0-6, 5-14 overall.
Tinora got off to a good start, leading the Bulldogs after one, 12-10.
Both teams were looking to play uptempo basketball all night, the Rams exploded for 17 second quarter points, heading to the half with a 29-23 lead.
Tinora was led by senior Nolan Schafer who bucket seven in the first half, while Edgerton was led by Nathan Swank who tallied nine first half points.
The third quarter saw the Rams jump out to a double-digit lead, only to see Edgerton battle back, cutting the Tinora lead to just three, 38-35 after three.
An exciting fourth quarter saw the teams combines for 46 total points, The Rams senior leaders of Schafer, Rinkel, and Miles would not allow the Rams to suffer another late loss.
All three seniors would combine for 23 second half points as the Rams pulled away down the stretch, picking up a 63-56 victory.
Schafer would end as the game’s high scorer with 21 points, while Rinkel would nail six straight free throws in the final 90 seconds to secure the Rams fifth win.
Tinora with a great scoring balance, putting eight players in the scoring column.
Edgerton was paced by Nathan Swank and his 17 points.
With the win, Tinora improves to 5-13, 1-5 in the GMC. Tinora will host Crestview Saturday night in a non conference game. Although Kalen Etzler has moved on to the Buckeyes, the Knights still are a talented bunch, coming in with a 12-5 record.
Edgerton falls to 5-15, 0-7 in the GMC. Edgerton closes out their regular season as they travel to North Central Saturday night.
