Senior Scylea Zolman scattered seven hits and allowed three runs, as the Tinora Lady Rams picked up their first win of the 2024 season over the Bowling Green Bobcats.
Freshman Zoe Billings clubbed her first career homerun, a two run shot in the fourth inning, which at the time gave the Lady Rams a 3-2 lead.
Scylea Zolman started the scoring for the Lady Rams with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second, which put Tinora up 1-0.
Bowling Green took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth. After Zolman retired the first two Lady Cats, the next three batters reached safely, with two of the scoring to put Bowling Green on top. Ella White supplied a two RBI single to ignite the Lady Cats rally.
After the Billings homerun in the fourth, gave Tinora a 3-2 lead, Bowling Green tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning. The first two BG batters reached, Kylie Kukacki walked, followed by a Samantha Trimpey single put runners on first and second for Bowling Green.
After a sacrifice bunt by Brynn Wilhelm moved the runners to second and third, Zoe Zims singled, scoring Trimpley to tie the game 3-3. With just one out, the Lady Cats looked to grab the lead with runners at second and third, however the Lady Rams Zolman worked out of the jam with a strikeout followed by a liner back at her.
The game would remain tied at 3-3 until the Lady Rams came to bat in the bottom of the sixth. Tinora would break the tie, plating three runs, two unearned, as they grabbed a 6-3 lead through six innings.
Scylea Zolman started the rally with a single to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Madison Spangler would follow with a double to left, putting Lady Rams runners at second and third with no outs. Zolman and Spangler would score on an error by the BG center fielder on a long fly off the bat of Billings as Tinora grabbed a 5-3 lead. Tinora would add another run on a Mickey Starkey ground out, scoring Billings from third to put the Lady Rams ahead, 6-3 through six innings.
Zolman would retire the Lady Cats in the top of the seventh, picking up her 47th career win.
Tinora improves to 1-0 and will travel to Patrick Henry on Saturday to take on the Patriots at 11 am.
Bowling Green drops to 0-2 and will host Wauseon at 11 am on Saturday, 3/30.
