SHERWOOD: Senior guard Nova Okuley threw in 16 points in the first half, guiding the Tinora Lady Rams to a 55-38 win over the Fairview Apaches. Okuley, who finished with a game high 21 points helped Tinora stay one game behind GMC leader Wayne Trace in the conference race.

Kayla Mavis gave the Apaches a early 2-0 on a drive and score, the Mavis basket gave Fairview their only lead of the night. Tinora’s Nova Okuley’s bucket knotted the game at 2-2, jump starting her nine point opening quarter. She would immediately capitalize on a Fairview turnover, giving Tinora a 4-2 advantage. Okuley would score the Lady Rams first nine points of the game, giving Tinora a 9-3 lead before taking a 16-13 lead and the end of the initial quarter.

Fairview’s Addy Zeedyke would hammer in eight first quarter points as she tried to keep the Apaches afloat. The Tinora defense would limit Zeedyke to those initial eight points over the final three quarters.

The second quarter would see Tinora’s offense explode as they would score 20 points. Eowyn Blachard and Nova Okuley’s seven points each in the quarter saw the Lady Rams take a 36-24 lead to the half.

The third quarter was a defensive battle by both Fairview and Tinora as each team was limited to just seven points each, Tinora took a 43-31 lead through three quarters of play.

The final stanza saw the Lady Rams push their lead to 47-31 with just under three minutes on the clock. Fairview would battle as the final seconds would off the clock, but Tinora eventually would end the game with a 55-39 victory.

For just the second time in the last 10 meetings, the Tinora Lady Rams came away with a win over rival Fairview.

Tinora improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the GMC. The Rams will travel to Allen East next Tuesday.

Fairview falls to 4-11, 1-3 in conference play. The Apaches will travel to Edon on Monday.
