For the third time in consecutive years the Lady Rams battled the Bulldogs on the volleyball court. It was the third meeting between the mother & daughter due of long time volleyball coach Bretta Hagerty and her daughter, Bri.
The Lady Rams started the initial set a bit sluggish. Defiance started the set with six straight points before Tinora timeout by coach Haggerty. After the timeout, Tinora finally would score but trailed 7-1. Defiance let 16-8 before extending their lead as the set continued.
The Lady Rams were never able to get back in the initial set, dropping just their seventh set of the season, 25-13. The Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Set two saw the Lady Rams finally awake and start their comeback. The Lady Rams jumped out to a 7-2 lead before a Bulldog timeout. Tinora would extend the lead to 11-6 before eventually closing out the set 25-15 to knot the match at 1-1.
The third set was more of the same for the Lady Rams. The set did feature the 1000th career kill for Defiance’s Karleigh Hoffman, a great accomplishment.
Defiance did tie the match at 8-8 midway through before Tinora went on a 17-6 run to end the set. The Lady Rams snagged a 2-1 set advantage.
The fourth set between the the renewed rivals was all Lady Rams. Tinora limited the Bulldogs offense that was so potent in the first set. The Lady Rams led midway 17-7 before closing out the visiting Bulldogs 25-12, to take the match 3-1.
Tinora improves to 2-0 with the win. The Lady Rams close out the regular season hosting Paulding on Tuesday and traveling to Edgerton Thursday with a chance to clinch the GMC title.
Defiance drops to 14-6. Defiance closes out the regular season with games at OG and Lincolview.
