As the remnants of Hurricane Helene entered Northwest Ohio, the Antwerp Archers and the Tinora Rams took the field at a windy, rainy Justin F Coressel Stadium on Friday Night, Homecoming Night at Tinora High School.

After Paul Westrick and Malorie Zachrich were named Homecoming King and Queen, the Rams and Archers were set to kickoff in less ideal conditions.

After the Rams made a defensive stop on the Archers’ opening drive, Tinora drove from their own 45 to their nine-yard line, setting up a first-and-goal for ther Antwerp 9 yardline. But after a significant loss on first down and two short runs, the Rams trotted out Jacob Bishop for a 33-yard field goal attempt with 5:57 on the first quarter scoreboard.

In one of the early signs that it was going to be a long, miserable night for both teams, Bishop’s attempt went into the air and hit the wall of the wind and the ball came straight down at the goalline; the kick was no good.

After both teams traded drives, the Tinora defense held the Archers offense and was forced with a fourth down from their 23-yard line. An errant Antwerp snap resuled in a scoop and score for Tinora’s Alex Homier from 13 yards out, the Bishop XP was good, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead with 4:46 in the initial quarter.

As the wind and rain continued throughout the opening half, neither team could get much offense going. After forcing an Antwepr punt, Tinora started in Antwerp territory after a fair catch interference penalty placed the ball at the Archer 35-yard line midway through the second quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Owen Ferrell and the Rams’ rushing attack led a scoring drive, resulting in a Devon Luellen TD from 14 yards out over the left side of the Tinora offensive line with 4:16 in the half. The Bishop XP was no good, and Tinora led 13-0.

Tinora mounted another drive right before the half, which resulted in a 26-yard Jacob Bishop field goal. The Rams took a 16-0 lead to the half.

The first-half conditions limited both team’s ability to move the ball. Antwerp tallied just 42 total yards, while the Rams accumulated 105 yards.

The second half saw the Tinora defensive duo of Alec Schaublin and Alex Homier take over. That Ram duo along with the rest of the Tinora defense locked down the Archrs offensive attack.

The third quarter came and went, with neither team adding to their totals; the Rams took their 16-0 lead to the final stanza.

With the damp conditions still slowing each team, the only score in the fourth quarter came from the Rams offense. Devon Luellen took it in from 11 yards out for his second score of the game. The Bishop XP put the Rams on top 23-0 with 2:50 on the fourth-quarter game clock.

Tinora held the lead for the final 2:50, taking the Homecoming contest 23-0 over the visiting Archers.
