HOLLAND – Lady Rams sophomore catcher Paige Gamby supplied all the power Tinora needed at the plate, and Senior pitcher Scylea Zolman supplied everything she had in her right arm as the Tinora Lady Rams defeated the Swanton Bulldogs 2-0 Wednesday evening from the Springfield softball complex in Holland.

Tinora’s Paige Gamby started the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff solo homerun as she took a 1-2 pitch from Swanton starter Taylor Forrest over the right center fence for a 1-0 Lady Rams advantage after two innings.

As the pitcher’s duel between Tinora’s Scylea Zolman and Swanton’s Taylor Forrest was unfolding through the first two innings, the Lady Bulldogs started to make some noise in the top of the third.

Trailing 1-0, Swanton loaded the bases off Zolman, Carli LaGrange started the inning with a leadoff single. LaGrange would advance to second on a one out fielders choice hit off the bat of Lyla Carrizales, putting two Lady Bulldog runners on base. Alexa Faber would ground out to Tegan Norden at shortstop, who threw out LaGrange at third for the second out. Forrest would follow with a walk to load the bases with two outs. Zolman would get a groundnut to Norden to end the inning as the Lady Rams still were clinging to the 1-0 lead after three.

As senior starters Zolman and Forrest continued their battle on the mound, Tinora took their 1-0 lead to the bottom of the sixth. Tanae Smith led off the bottom of the inning for Tinora with a walk. Tegan Norden’s perfect sacrifice bunt moved Smith to third, as a Swanton infield errant throw allowed Norden to reach safely. After a Tinora strikeout, Paige Gamby would supply a sacrifice fly, scoring Norden from third, giving the Lady Rams a 2-0 advantage after six innings of play.

Swanton would bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in the top of the seventh, as Zolman would hit LaGrange, putting the potential tying run at the plate. Zolman would retire DeTray for the final out, sending the Lady Rams to their third straight District Championship.

Tinora improves to 21-4 and will play Oak Harbor Saturday at 1 pm in Holland.
