Senior Day at Tinora, always a time to celebrate the past, while looking to the future.
Playing in their final regular-season home game was an eight member class of Rams, senior baseball players Jayden Bergman, Bryce Bailey, Cole Commisso, Nolan Schafer, Tristan Birks, Casen Wolfrum, Keegan Miles, & Tyler Wiemken all were honored in a great ceremony prior to the game tonight vs Antwerp.
In a tuneup for the OHSAA tournament trail, which starts next week, the Rams and Archers hooked up at Tinora for a non-league game on a great evening for baseball.
Tinora entered at 15-3 after a great 10-0 GMC win over Wayne Trace on Wednesday evening, the win tied the Rams and Raiders atop the Green Meadows Conference standings. Antwerp travels to Fairview on Friday, an Archer win creates a three-way tie for first as the GMC season ends.
In the regular season conference game back on April 26, Antwerp bested the Rams 9-8. Antwerp arrived off the bus with a 12-3 mark.
Four year starter Nolan Schafer was given the ball to start vs the Archers. All Schafer has done in 3 starts was register a 3-0 record, with 3 complete game wins, while registering a 1.27 ERA. Antwerp sent lefty Reid Lichty to the hill vs the Ram attack.
Antwerp got things rolling right out of the gate. Chase Clark singled to start the game, moved to second on a Parker Moore sacrifice, and then scored on a Luke Krouse double to the gap, putting the Archers up 1-0. The Rams starter Schafer retired the next two Archers, Antwerp led 1-0 through one half inning.
After the senior Schafer led off with a walk, sophomore shortstop Kadyn Radzik sent a pitch over the left field fence for his first career homerun, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Rams would add a single run in then bottom of the second. Senior Bryce Bailey reached on a throwing error, then scored on a Ty Wiemken RBI single, giving Tinora a 3-1 lead after two innings.
Antwerp looked to get back in the game in the top of the third, due to a bit of spotty defense by the Rams. Chase Clark singled for the second time, moving to second on a wild pitch. Clark scored on a Tinora fielding error, cutting the Rams lead to 3-1. Krause landed at third with one out on the single and error. Schafer again stepped to the front, retiring the next two Archers to keep the Rams lead at 3-2.
The Ram bats would add run four in the bottom of the forth. Bryce Bailey again reached, this time on an infield single, Bailey came around to score on Keegan Miles double to the gap, Tinora lead 4-2 after four innings.
With the Rams starter Schafer back in control, it was time for the Rams patent big inning. Tinora sent nine to the plate in the bottom of the fifth, pushing across five runs.
Senior Cole Commisso with his 40th RBI on a single that scored Nolan Schafer made it 5-2. Commisso scored on a Casen Wolfrum RBI, giving the Rams a 6-2 lead. Bryce Bailey smashed a single, platting tow more Rams runs, Tinora increased their lead to 8-2. The final run of the inning came via senior Keegan Miles, Miles with a great day, singled home Bailey, the Rams ended the fifth leading 9-2.
Archer starter Reid Lichty would give way to Parker Moore after five innings of work. Moore would work the final inning for Antwerp.
Tinora would add its last run in the bottom of the sixth. After a lead off single, followed by an Archer balk, Nolan Schafer scored on a Luke Harris groundnut, giving the Rams a 10-2 lead after six.
The senior righty Schafer came out to close out the Archers, Schfer did just that, retiring the final three Archers he faced. Tinora came away with a 10-2 win over Antwerp.
Tinora improves to 16-3, the Rams travel to Bryan on Friday, then Miller City Saturday morning.
Antwerp falls to 12-4. The Archers travel to Fairview Friday to try to get a piece of the GMC title vs the Apaches.

The Higbea Embroidery player of the game went to Rams senior Nolan Schafer. Nolan with win #4, his forth complete game. Schafer allowed just two runs, truck out eight, and walked just one in the win. Congratulations, Nolan.
