The Otsego Knights used a 10-play, 99-yard drive, capped by a Grady Frank one-yard TD run midway through the third quarter, to knock off the Tinora Rams 21-14 in week #2 Friday night football.

The visiting Knights got off to a hot start using a five-play drive for 78 yards, capped off by a 55-yard scamper by Trevor Brooks. Mason Kramer’s XP gave the Knights a 7-0 lead with 7:09 in the initial quarter.

After two straight Tinora turnovers, the second being an Otsego forced fumble recovered at the one-yard line, the Knights Zaden Ziviski plunged in from a yard out, extending the Otsego lead to 13-0. The XP was no good; 3:01 remained in the opening frame.

The Tinora offense finally kicked it into gear in the second quarter. After being shut out in the opener by Liberty Center, the Rams drove deep into Otsego territory, but faced a fourth and goal from the Knights’ four-yard line. Owen Ferrell capped a 14-play, 70-yard drive with a dart to fellow senior Josh Lieb for the Rams first score of the season. Jackson DeWeese added the XP for a 13-7 Rams deficit with 8:48 remaining in the second stanza.

After the Tinora defense held the Knights to 3 plays and a punt, Owen Reynolds returned a punt to the Otsego 47.

The Rams Cooper Replogle literally put the team on his back, scoring from a yard out, tying the game at 13-13. Jackson DeWeese added the XP; Tinora led 14-13 at the 8:48 mark of the second quarter. On the previous play, Replogle carried Knights defenders to the half-yard line for a gain of 11, just short of the goal line.

The Rams came up with a stop right before the half, stopping the Knights at the Tinora 19 before a sack for a 15-yard loss ended the half.

Tinora carried the momentum of a great second quarter into the half with a 14-13 lead.

The only score of the second half would come on the previously mentioned 99-yard drive by the Knights.

After tinora was forced to punt, the Rams Josh Lieb nailed a 45-yard punt, backing the Knights up to their own one-yard line. Otsego would proceed to march 99 yards for the go-ahead score; the two-point conversion run by Trevor Brooks was good, and the Knights led 21-14 with 2:27 remaining in the third quarter.

Tinora did mount a drive on their final possession of the game. Tinora appeared to score on a fourth-down conversion on a Ferrell to Reynolds 46-yard score, but a holding penalty wiped out the potential game-tying score with 2:15 remaining in the game.

The Knights were able to stop the Rams on the final drive, running out the final two minutes of the game.

Otsego improves to 2-0 to start the young season. The Knights will host Liberty Center next Friday.

The Rams fall to 0-2. Tinora will travel to Archbold to take on a strong Bluestreaks team Friday.
