HOLLAND – What a day for the Lady Rams softball team it was.
The day started with the team scheduled to play North Central at Tinora. Due to injuries on the North Central softball team, the game was cancelled late morning. This sent Tinora Athletic Director Jake Essig scrambling, trying to work some magic to get a game for Coach Fairchild and the Lady Rams, and he did just that.
All the Lady Rams had to do now was load the bus and travel a bit northeast to take on the #6 team in Division I, the Springfield Blue Devils. Coach Fairchild has stated from day one, “I want to play the best.”
The Lady Rams consider the home of the Blue Devils their second home, as they have captured the last two District Titles at Holland.
Although things didn’t turn out the way the Lady Rams had wanted as they fell to Springfield 12-2, a great mid-season matchup against one of the better teams in the area. The game will prove a good test for the Tinora softball team down the road, as the tournament road begins in less than a month.
The Lady Rams only two runs of the game came in the top of the fourth on solo homeruns by Scylea Zplman and Paige Gamby.
Springfield tallied two runs in the third, and five runs in the fourth off Tinora starter Scylea Zolman.
Zoe Billings came in and relieved Zolman in the bottom of the fourth and gave up five runs in the sixth.
Springfield’s Calle Chappetta picked up the win, striking out 10 Lady Rams in six innings.
Tinora drops to 12-2 and will travel to Ayersville to take on the Pilots in a huge GMC contest Tuesday.
Springfield improves to 10-3 and will travel to Bowling Green.
