Tontogany, OH – Trailing 29-14 with just over four minutes in the game, The Tinora Rams mounted a furious rally after Owen Ferrell threw two touchdown passes to get the Rams to within 29-27 with 1:14 remaining in the contest.
After a 30 yard field goal from Otsego’s Toby Powel increased the Knights lead to 29-14 with 8:43 on the clock, all seemed hopeless for the Tinora offense. But, a high snap over the punters head by Otsego, recovered by the Rams at the Knights 25 yard line, resulted in a Ferrell 11 yard TD pass to Abram Jimenez, cut the Knights lead to 29-20 with 4:17 on the fourth quarter clock. Parker Hancock’s extra point went through for a 29-21 deficit.
After a defensive stop by Tinora, Ferrell and the Rams offense was looking at 89 yards and a two point conversion for a tie with just 3:06 remaining. After using his short passing game, Ferrell got the Rams to the Otsego 48 yard line with 1:20 in the contest.
Facing a second and six, Ferrell would hit teammate Owen Reynolds down the left sideline for a 48 yard TD with 1:10 in the game. Tinora needed a two point conversion to tie the game. After each team called a timeout, The Rams lines up for the tying conversion. Faced with heavy pressure, Ferrell’s desperation pass was intercepted by Otsego at the goal line.
Tinora still had a chance, but needed to recover the ensuing onside kick. Parker Hancock’s kick was recovered flawlessly by the Knights Toby Powel, sealing Otsego’s 29-27 win over the Rams.
Tinora got on the scoreboard first with a Doug Hattemer 1-yard TD plunge with 1:04 in the opening quarter. Hancock’s XP have the Rams a early 7-0 advantage.
Otsego wasted little time knotting the game back up as Keeghan Hutton scampered 70 yards for a score, the XP by Powel tied the game at 7-7 with 10 seconds in the first quarter.
Tinora jumped back on top as Owen Ferrell hit Dylan Schauffele for a beautiful 15-yard TD pass, Hancock’s XP gave the Rams a 14-7 lead with 8:46 to go in the initial half.
The host Knights would again score quickly, this time sophomore QB Grady Frank would go 30-yards for a TD, Powel’s XP would hit the upright and be no good, Otsego led 20-14 with 51 seconds left in the half.
Frank would again strike quickly to start the third quarter as he wold jet for a 55-yard TD, the XP again would hit the upright as the Knights lead would grow to 26-14 with 9:39 in the third. Powel’s XP would again hit the upright and bounce off.
The Knight would dominate using the rushing game, Otsego rushed for 277 yards on 39 attempts. The Knights kept the Tinora defense off balance using their triple option. Frank led the Knights attack with 127 yards on 14 carries, scoring two times.
Owen Ferrell led the Rams with 325 yards through the air, Ferrell was 24-36 with three TD’s and three interceptions.
Tinora would turn the ball over five times on the night and be penalized 14 times for 132 yards. Otsego turned the ball over just once and had five penalties for 50 yards.
Otsego improves to 2-0 and will host Genoa next Friday Night.
The Rams drop to 0-2 and will host Archbold next Friday at Tinora. The Rams will celebrate the 1995 playoff team with a reunion.
