Doug Plassman will take over for Coach Thiel in girls basketball, while Eric Tipton will take over for Brent Renollet in baseball, both in the upcoming seasons.

From the Crescent-News:

Doug Plassman comes to the helm of the Rams’ girls’ basketball program as a first-time varsity head coach.

A 1992 graduate of Tinora High School, he has coached football, baseball and basketball at varying levels. He’s coached ACME baseball for Tinora in the summer, and most notably in relation to this position, he has coached eighth grade girl’s basketball at Tinora for the past 14 years.

“I’ve always said I bleed green,” Plassman said of why he decided to apply for the position. ‘It means the world to me to get to do this. It’s been a dream of mine for the last 10 years that just hasn’t panned out, but I’ve been working towards this and I’m excited to get started.”

Another one of the things Plassman takes pride in is helping to start the flag football program, giving him experience in being the head of an organization, much of which he’ll see similarities in as he tries to continue the progress of Thiel of building up not just the varsity program but the youth program as well.

“We need to continue to get the younger kids involved. Basketball is a hard sport to play and I want to bring some fun to the program, not only at the high school or even junior high level, but at the elementary level,” Plassman said. “We have to get the girls at younger ages excited about basketball.”

He feels that his experience coaching eighth grade basketball has prepared him to coach going to his first season. He’s already coached nearly every kid in or coming up to the varsity program later this year.

“You get to not only know those girls in middle school, but you get to know their families, which is important,” Plassman said. “Hopefully, the fundamentals that I’ve taught them in middle school transfer.”

As for his goals on the court in his first season, he knows his team will be young after graduating five seniors from a varsity roster of eight last season, which is why he will continue to preach fundamentals from day one.

“Goal number one is fundamentals. I’m a huge fundamental guy. I teach it from day one,” Plassman said. “I promise that we are going to work extremely hard at the game of basketball and hopefully that shows itself on the court.

From the Crescent-News:

For Tinora, the resignation of Brent Renollet in late May after the Rams’ GMC championship season in 2025 set up the approval about a month later of Eric Tipton as the Rams’ next head baseball coach, as announced by the Tinora High School athletic department’s account on the social media platform X on Monday evening.

Tipton, a 2002 Paulding grad and 2006 Defiance College grad, has been with the Tinora baseball coaching staff since 2007 working under Renollet and the experienced Rams’ staff over the years.

Tipton currently serves as the principal at Tinora Elementary following a stint teaching in the Northeastern Local school system and time spent as Tinora High School principal.

Renollet stepped down following 26 seasons at Tinora, where he racked up a 445-197 record as skipper for the Ram baseball program and built the once-moribund program into an area power with 11 Green Meadows Conference titles, five district titles, four regional crowns and the crown jewel, the 2014 Division IV state championship.
