Lady Rams best Ayersville, 3-0, Reineke records 1,000 career assist

The 2021 volleyball edition of the River Rivalry was in full effect on Tuesday night at Tinora High School.

The Lady Pilots came in from Ayersville sporting a six game winning streak, 8-3 overall, also boasting a 2-0 Green Meadows Conference conference record.

Tinora’s Lady Rams came in a little hot as well, winning three of their last four games, also undefeated in the GMC at 2-0.

The evening started with the Tinora Freshman winning in two sets, 25-8 & 25-7.

Up next was the JV contest. The Lady Rams took an epic first set, 34-32, neither team willing to budge an ounce. Tinora grabbed set two as well, 25-15, winning 2-0.

As the air was full of electricity after a great JV contest, the varsity squads took the floor with a great crowd, rocking student sections, and the Ram pep band adding sparks to the atmosphere.

The Lady Rams busted through first, taking the initial set 25-18. In the back and forth second set, Tinora also came out on top, 25-16. In the set, Rams senior Brooklyn Reineke recorded her 1,000 career assist. Reineke was presented a game ball from coach Bretta Hagerty honoring her accomplishment between the second and third sets.

With the Lady Rams have a 2-0 set advantage, the Lady Pilots were anything but done. As the Lady Pilots were grabbing a late third set lead, 24-19, Tinora mounted a comeback. The Lady Rams scored the next seven straight points to rally and take the third set, 26-24,

Both teams gave 110% effort, diving, digging, colliding all over the floor at Tinora High School, a great volleyball match.

With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 7-3, 3-0 in the GMC, Tinora will host Liberty Center on Thursday, ending their month long home stand.

Ayersville sees their six game winning streak snapped, falling to 8-4, 2-1 in the GMC. The Lady Pilots travel to Continental on Thursday.

The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game Award goes to Brooklyn Reineke. Congratulations to Brooklyn for a great game and also recording her 1000 career assist.
