The Tinora Lady Rams started their OHSAA tournament trail with an opening round game vs the Swanton Bulldogs.
Tinora, 13-3, drew the #3 seed and elected to play, hosting the 9-5 Lady ‘Dogs of Swanton.
Swanton came in winning 6 of their last 8 games, scoring in double digits in four straight games. The Lady Rams shook off a bit of rust in Monday’s win at Wauseon. It was the Lady Rams first game in 11 days since clinching the GMC title on 4/28.
Tinora’s first year coach Tony Fairchild sent sophomore sensation Scylea Zolman to the hill, Zolman entered at 12-1 with a 1.20 ERA.
Zolman had things going her way most of the night, limiting the Bulldogs scoreless and to just two hits through the first four innings, Zolman had nine strikeouts through four.
Tinora got things started right out of the gate, plating a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Tegan Norden, scoring Anna Frazier. Tinora held a 1-0 lead after two innings.
The Lady Rams got things rolling again in innings three and four via the long ball. In the bottom of the third, Tinora”s leading hitter Devona Holmes got he team leading 23rd RBI on a sac fly, scoring Anna Frazier, Tinora led 2-0. The Lone Tinora senior Quinn Horn sent a pitch to deep center field, just out of the reach of Swanton center fielder Kyleigh Shinaver, for a solo homerun, giving the Lady rams a 4-0 lead. Zolman followed with a towering blast to left field, a back to back homerun for Tinora, the Lady Rams took a 5-0 lead after three.
With Zolman still in control in the circle, Tinora added another crooked number in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three more runs, increasing their lead to 7-0.
Tinora catcher Tanea Smith scored on a Teegan Norden RBI double. Norden then scored on a Devona Holmes two run homerun, giving Tinora the 7-0 lead.
Swanton’s lone runs came in the top of the sixth inning on a two run homerun by pitcher Brianna Williams, Williams hit the top of the Rams scoreboard on the blast. This was the only blemish on Zolman’s day.
Devona Holmes would end the Tinora scoring with another RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Anna Frazier. Frazer plated three runs in the Rams win.
Zolman would end up with a complete game win, picking up win #13 on the season, she would strike out 14 Swanton batters, allowing five hits, while walking just three.
With the win, the Lady Rams collected win #14. Tinora advances to play on Friday vs Genoa. The Comets are the #4 seed and will travel to Tinora, game-time Friday is 5:00 pm.
