The 2023 Tinora Rams football team welcomed in a new head coach for the first time since the 1997 season.
Tinora alum Eric Becker was hired on Jan 17 as the 10th coach in Tinora history to lead the 2023 Rams.
After coming off a 2022 season that saw the Rams finish at 8-4 and advance to the second round of the OHSAA playoffs, the ’23 team needed to replace a graduation class of Gavin Eckert, Brandon Edwards, Cole Anders, Dallas Dachenhaus, Jacob Guisinger, Teron Ward, Will Newman, Javen Gaines, Cole Sweinhagen, and Steven Bohn Jr.
The opening non-league schedule for Tinora featured three of the top teams in the area over the past few decades.
Two new non-league games were added, Otsego and Archbold, and the traditional season opener, the powerhouse Liberty Center Tigers.
The season kicked off on August 16 vs the Tigers of Liberty Center and the visitors wasted little time getting on the scoreboard for the new season.
Tigers QB Grady Miller hit Colton Chambers across the middle for a 65 yard TD, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead. After the XP turned into a fire drill for the Tigers, they converted a two point conversion, grabbing a 8-0 lead at the 11:50 mark of the initial quarter.
After leading the state ranked Tigers for much of the first half, the Rams eventually fell in the season opener, 35-14, falling to 0-1.

Week two was a trip to The Castle at Otsego as the Rams took on the newly added Knights. The Rams gave Coach Becker his first career win with a 27-19 road win.
Trenton Delarber’s interception for a score ignited Tinora in the first half. Grady Gustwiller and Dominic Graziani both used their legs as the Rams rushing attack gained 180 yards and defensively, Braden Roesti shined as Tinora picked up a big win.

Week three, a very emotional week for the football program as Coach Eric Becker lost his wife, Amber, after a lengthy illness.
The Bluestreaks of Archbold came in and dominated the Ram football team 48-7, Tinora fell to 1-2.
Archbold’s community, fans, students, and coaching staff were very supportive on a very emotional Friday night at Tinora High School.

Week 4, the start of the GMC conference season, is a chance to grab the conference crown back to THS. The first stop on the ’23 conference season was a trip to Fairview to take on the young Apaches.
The Rams defense put the clamps on the high-flying Apache offense led by William Zeedyke. Tinora left with a 42-14 road win, improving to 2-1 and 1-0 in conference play.
Week five, another road trip, this time to the reigning GMC champs, the Antwerp Archers.
Despite outgaining the Archers and seemingly moving the ball at will against the Antwerp defense, Tinora dropped a 32-14 win. Tinora fell to 2-3, 1-1 in the GMC.
Even though a loss, the Tinora football team proved they could play with the best.
In week six, the Rams saw the Wayne Trace Raiders make a trip to Justin F Coressel Stadium at Tinora High School.
A trip across the river was in store for the Rams in week seven as they tried to grab the Victory Bell away from the Pilots of Ayersville.
Week eight saw the Tinora defense start to tighten up as the season headed into the stretch run. The vastly improved Paulding Panthers came into Tinora leading the GMC in rushing. A rainy Friday night saw the Tinora offense get going quickly and defeated the Panthers, 56-0. The Rams moved to 6-2, 4-1 in the GMC.
Week nine saw a trip to Edgerton to take on the Bulldogs. Again, the Rams defense was ready to go as Tinora shutout Edgerton, 38-0, Tinora improved to 6-3, 5-1 in conference play. Tinora would clinch a playoff spot with the win.
Week 10, the final regular season Friday, Senior Night from Justin F Coressel Stadium.
Week 11, playoffs. A goal each team has before each new season, postseason play.
Tinora and the senior class of Kadyn Radzik, Owen Ackerman, Grady Gustwiller, Carter Guilliam, Brayden Roesti, Joey Guisinger, Graham Askins, Andrew Richardson, & Landon Newsome accomplished so much as a team in their four years as a Ram.
