Wayne Trace 42 Tinora 39

JEWELL- The Lady Rams and Lady Raiders took the floor on a Thursday night at Tinora High School, both teams looking to get the upper hand midway through the Green Meadows Conference season.

The Lady Rams and Lady Raiders both trailed the league leaders by a game, trailing Ayersville and Fairview, neither could afford a second conference loss.

The young Lady Raiders, who have just two seniors and a slew of underclassman, busted out to a season high 19 points in the first quarter, grabbing a 19-11 lead over the host Lady Rams.

Coach DeJarnett’s squad at times resembled her basketball teams that won four straight GMC titles from 2017-2020.

The middle quarters and missed free throws would come back to haunt Tinora down the stretch in the final quarter.

After the outburst of points in the initial quarter, turnovers and missed shots dominated the second quarter as Wayne Trace took a 25-25 lead to the half.

The Raiders and senior Gracie Shepherd would dominate the inside in the half, bucketing nine points.

Another struggle in the third for Tinora, they would score just 4 points, eight total in the middle quarters, Wayne Trace would leave the third with a 34-19 lead.

A tight Tinora defense, led by guard Karli Okuley would lead a comeback for Tinora in the fourth. With the efforts of teammates Nova Okuley and Liv Mueller, the Lady Rams would on two separate occasions cut the Raiders lead down to one with just over two minutes to go in the game, 35-34.

Unfortunately for Tinora, missed free throws and a few untimely turnovers would eventually lead to the Lady Rams loss.

The Raiders Caroline Winans hit four huge free throws in the final 90 seconds for Wayne Trace.

The visiting Raiders would leave Ram Country with a hard fought 42-39 win over Tinora.

Tinora drops to 6-6, 1-2 in the GMC. The Lady Rams will have a week off, traveling across the River next Thursday to take on the Lady Pilots in the River Rivalry on 1/19.

Wayne Trace improves to 6-7, 2-1 in conference play. The Raiders are back at it on Tuesday in a non-conference game @ Delphos Jefferson.
