One day, you’re taking the floor as a Future Lady Ram elementary basketball player, and in the blink of an eye, it’s Senior Night.

On Thursday night, a packed house at Tinora High School saw the future of the Lady Rams basketball program as the elementary kids took the floor before the varsity game, and the highlight of the night was the celebration of the two Lady Rams seniors, Christina Meyer and Kate Zimmerman.

In the previous meeting in December at the Defiance Physical Therapy Classic, the Pilots soundly defeated the Tinora Lady Rams 50-20.

Heading into round two, the Pilots were without their leading scorer, senior leader Kendra Waldron.

Tinora’s defensive pressure was evident in the first eight minutes. The Lady Rams forced numerous Pilots turnovers, and senior Christina Meyer was just getting started, as she would connect on her first of three made three-point shots in the contest as the Lady Rams led 9-4 after the first quarter.

The Tinora defense continued to cause havoc in the second stanza as the Lady Rams took a 19-10 lead to the locker room.

Ayersville’s Kendyll Booher threw in Eight first half points, while the Lady Rams were led by Meyer’s six points.

The third stanza was possibly the Lady Rams best quarter of the season as they dumped in 32 points to grab a 40-19 lead. Senior Kate Zimmerman, playing her best ball of the season, threw in seven of her nine points in the quarter, as the Rams took a 21-point advantage to the fourth.

The Ayersville pilots, despite the large deficit, never gave up. Ayersville would eventually cut the Lady Rams’ lead down to nine, but the clock was not on the Pilots’ side as the Lady Rams came away with a 50-40 win, sending the student section into a frenzy, and the two Lady Rams seniors home winners, as the clock hit zero.

Kendyll Booher would lead the Pilots in scoring with 13 before fouling out late in the final quarter, while the Lady Rams were led by Christina Meyer, and Madison Spangler.

Ayersville falls to 5-13, 0-6 in the GMC.
The Lady Rams improve to 3-15, 1-5 in the GMC, Tinora will play three road games next week. Monday at Holgate, Tuesday at Kalida, and Thursday at Hicksville.
