Senior Day 2023: A beautiful Saturday late morning at Tinora High School saw the Tinora Lady Rams softball program honor its five-member senior class, Anna Frazier, De’Vona Holmes, Logan McQuillin, Paige Carpenter, and Maren Pittman.

The five seniors would play their final regular season home game in the green and white vs the Swanton Bulldogs. Ironically, these two teams will meet on May 12 in the OHSAA softball sectionals at Tinora High School.

Coach Fairchild and the Lady Rams came in treating this as a high-end scrimmage game, with the two teams meeting in less than a week in the tournament, neither team was going to throw their #1 starting pitcher.

The highlight of the game was seeing Lady Rams senior De’Vona Holmes get to step to the plate one final time in her final home game. Holmes was unable to play her senior season due to a knee injury suffered during the off-season. |

In two at-bats, Holmes drew a walk in the third and would lace a rocket to right in the fourth for a single in her final plate appearance. De’Vona would leave the game for a pinch runner, exiting to hugs from Coach Fairchild and her teammates, and a great ovation from the Rams fans on hand.

Maren Pittman would get the start for Tinora. Pitman would pick up the win, pitching a solid five innings, allowing just two earned runs.

Swanton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the top of the first on a double by Forrest, scoring Faber.

Tinora would answer with two of their own in the bottom of the first. Anna Frazer led off with a single and would come around on a Paige Gamby homerun. Tinora would lead 2-1 after one inning.

Swanton tied the game at 2-2 in the third on an RBI sacrifice fly by DeTray, scoring Yeager. Swanton added a third run to go up 3-2 as Carrizales would come across the plate on a fielder’s choice.

Tinora would grab the lead back in the bottom of the third. The Lady Rams would score three runs, grabbing a 5-3 lead after three. Tanae Smith would score the tying run on a passed ball, then Anna Frazer scored run four on a single by Logan McQuillin. Paige Gamby would cross the plate for the third run in the inning, as Tinora exited with a 5-3 lead through three innings of play.

Swanton would score two in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. LaGrange and Carrizales both scored in the inning for Swanton.

The Lady Rams would send 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring seven runs, and grabbing a 12-5 lead.
Highlighted in the inning was a homerun by Scylea Zolman that hit the fair pole in left field.
Zoe Roesti would again homer for Tinora, the two-run shot put the Lady Rams up 12-5 after four.

Tinora would send the seniors home happy, as they would add three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 15-5 win.
Paige Carpenter would end it with a single, scoring Paige Gamby from third, ending the game with the 10-run rule.

Tinora improves to 14-5. The Lady Rams will travel to Wayne Trace on Monday for a non-conference game.

Swanton drops to 9-9. The Bulldogs will play at North Central on Monday.

The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game went to De’Vona Holmes. What a great day it was to see De’Vona step to the plate. Congratulations, De’Vona.
