HICKSVILLE – On another chilly evening, this time from Hicksville, the Tinora Rams took their undefeated record against one of the better pitchers in the area, the Aces Jackson Bergman. Bergman, a University of Toledo commit, was matched up against the Rams ace, Casen Wolfrum.
Casen Wolfrum entered the game with a 2-0 record, and through 12 innings, Wolfrum had yet to yield an earned run.
Tinora brought it’s 6-0 record, 2-0 against the Aces, 2-2, 0-2 in conference play.
Through the first three innings of play, both Bergman and Wolfrum battled it out in contrasting styles. Wolfrum using limited pitches, went unscathed through the first 9 hitters, while the Rams had Bergman in hot water over the same timeframe.
The Rams left runners on base in the first three frames, two in the first, two more in the second, and some indecisive base running in the third, the Rams left another, the game was deadlocked at 0-0 through three frames.
Rams third baseball Tristan Birks finally broke through on Ace starter, Jackson Bergman. Birks sent a leadoff 1-1 pitch to deep right field for an opposite field home run, giving Tinora a 1-0 lead after four innings.
The Rams would strike for another single run off Bergman in the top of the fifth. The hot hitting Cole Commisso would reach via error, move to second on a passed ball, then score on a Jayden Bergman single, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead.
Tinora’s Wolfrum would continue to him along, not allowing a hit until a Zachary Thatcher single to start the Hicksville fifth.
Hicksville’s Bergman would exit after five innings, the Aces Maverick Keesbury would enter the top of the six to face the Rams bats.
Tinora responded with three runs, grabbing a 5-0 lead. Grady Gustwiller singled, then proceeded to steal second, then third, and score on a Keegan Miles safety squeeze, giving the Rams a 3-0 lead. Tinora would plate two additional runs, Miles would score the fourth run on a Hicksville error, Schafer would score on a Commisso RBI.
The Rams would add two more runs in the top of the seventh, Bryce Bailey and Keegan Miles would score on RBI’s by Schafer and Hicksville error, Tinora would take a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Rams senior righty Casen Wolfrum would look to close out the Aces. Wolfrum would allow two hits, three for the game, before striking out tow of the last three hitters for the complete game win.
For his efforts, Casen Wolfrum was named the Higbea Embroidery Player of the game.
The Rams improve to 7-0, 3-0 in GMC, and will face Independence (Rocky River area) Wednesday at 3:45 pm
Hicksville falls to 2-3, 0-3 in the GMC and will play at Fairview on Thursday.
