On Senior Night 2026, senior Dylan Schaufele’s free throw with just eight seconds left gave the Rams a one-point lead, followed by Jared Neff partially blocking a game-winning shot attempt as the Rams hung on for a thrilling 53-52 upset win over the Flyers.

In a makeup game that was originally scheduled for January 19, the Tinora Rams welcomed in the visiting Lake Flyers as the Rams honored seniors Parker Hancock and Dylan Schaufele, as well as senior cheerleaders Emma Sheets and Abby Bacon.

The high-flying Flyers came in with a 16-3 mark while averaging 64 points a game, while the Rams, winners of four of their last six, have played some of their best ball of the season over the last four weeks.

Tinora came out with the hot hand as the Rams grabbed an early 9-2 lead on a Parker Hancock bucket with 4:50 in the initial quarter. Josh Lieb threw in eight of Tinora’s 11 first-quarter points as the Rams took a 12-11 lead after one.

As the fouls began to mount against the Rams, coach Lymanstall had to rely on the Tinora bench crew. One Ram not in foul trouble was junior Owen Ferrell. Ferrell picked up where he left off Friday vs Paulding as he would score nine of his 14 points in the second stanza as the Flyers and Rams were knotted at the half, 23-23.

Ferrell’s 11 led the Rams at the half, while Lake was led by Preston Snyder’s 12.

The third quarter saw a see-saw eight minutes as the lead changed hands multiple times. Lake’s Xavier Scott heated up as he would throw in five of his 11 markers as Lake would take a 39-37 lead after three quarters of play.

The Flyers would race out to a 44-37 lead to start the final quarter on a deep left wing three-pointer by Carter Behlmer, 7:20 remained. The Rams would chip away and begin their comeback, as Jared Neff cut the lead to 44-39, then a deep Josh Lieb three cut the deficit to 44-42 with 6:01 remaining.

Lake built their lead back to 48-42 on a Scott drive and score with 5:30 remaining. The Flyers look to put the Rams away, as Scott would score again, giving the Flyers a 52-44 lead with 4:05 remaining in the fourth.

Owen Ferrell started the Rams’ comeback on a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 52-47 with 3:40 in the quarter. The Tinora defense forced two straight Lake turnovers, following a Neff bucket, and Tinora trailed 52-49 with 2:33 remaining.

Dylan Schaufele’s drive and score would knot the game at 52-52 at the 1:05 mark. After a Neff steal, coach Lymanstall would call a timeout with 55 seconds remaining. Holding the ball for the final shot, the Rams finally sent the offense in motion with 15 seconds left, after feeding the ball inside to Schaufele. Lake was whistled for a foul with 7.8 seconds on the clock. Schaufele would miss the first, but make the second free throw for a 53-52 lead.

After each team took a timeout, Tinora took a foul, burning 3 seconds off the clock. On the inbounds pass, the Flyers tried a backdoor pass with 3 seconds on the clock, Tinora’s Jared Neff deflected the pass out of bounds with just .09 seconds remaining.

After another timeout, Lake inbounded the ball in the left corner, Tinora’s Jared Neff deflected the game-winner, and the Rams came away with a thrilling 53-52 win.
