JEWELL – Big game players make big plays. Enter Tinora’s Luke Harris. Harris would bucket 19 total points, 15 in the final eight minutes, propelling the Rams to a 46-38 home win over the Holgate Tigers.
For the first time since the last blue moon, the Rams entered the non-conference contest vs the Tigers without a severe height disadvantage.
The opening quarter saw both teams playing very well on both ends of the court. The Rams saw both Gaven Eckert and Owen Ackerman catch fire, both scoring seven first quarter points as Tinora grabbed a 14-11 advantage after one.
Then the second quarter came. In a quarter that both teams will fast-forward through when reviewing the tape, the Rams scored a single bucket, a Harris runner in the lane, while the Tigers scored five.
Tinora took a 16-15 lead to the half.
Both Ezekial Balmarez (11 PPG) of Holgate and Harris (21 PPG) of Tinora came in to combine to average 32 PPG, they had a total of four points at the half.
The Tigers would put together a rally and grab a two point lead at 21-20 late in the third period. A deep three from the left wing by Balmarez would give the Tigers a one point lead.
Tinora’s Harris would drive and get fouled, Harris would bucket both free throws, the Rams would head to the fourth tied at 24-24. This would seem to ignite Harris, as he would have just two points prior to hitting the two free throws.
The fourth quarter started, as did the Luke Harris show. Harris would throw in 15 points in a 24 point quarter for the Tinora Rams.
The Rams would score the first 11 points of the final stanza, opening up a 35-24 lead. Harris, Ackerman, and Rittenhouse would ignite the Tinora offense in the initial three minutes of the quarter.
Harris and the Rams would dominate the final quarter en route to a 46-38 victory in front of the home crowd.
Owen Ackerman would score a career high 15 points for Tinora.
