Coaches preach after the game ends, no matter the result, a new one is on the horizon. Nothing was truer than Saturday night at Tinora High School as the Tinora Rams hosted the Archbold Bluestreaks.

Tinora, coming in off a tough loss Friday night to their rival Ayersville, welcomed in the 11-4 Archbold Bluestreaks, who have won the last 13 meetings in the series. Tinora’s last win came back in 2013 over the Streaks.

Another packed gym at Tinora High School saw the Rams jump out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead. Tinora senior Parker Hancock picked up two quick fouls in the opening 80 seconds of the game. Already down a starter, Tinora coach Kris Lymanstall had to turn to his bench, utilizing Koby Bumb and Elliott Horn.

After trading baskets through the first six minutes, Wyatt Gericke gave Archbold a 10-8 lead with 2 minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Tinora’s Owen Ferrell gave the Rams a 13-0 lead on a deep left wing three that Tinora would not relinquish until late in the final stanza. The Rams would exit the initial quarter with a 13-10 advantage.

Jared Neff’s basket gave the Rams a 17-12 lead early in the second quarter. Grant Lymanstall’s fast break jumper increased the Tinora lead to 22-14 with just over a minute in the half. Tinora would take that eight-point lead to the half.

Coach Joe Frank dialed up the Bluestreaks defense to start the third quarter. Archbold forced multiple Tinora turnovers, quickly cutting the Rams’ lead to 22-20 on a Wyatt Gericke bucket with 5:20 remaining in the third. Trip Langendurfer threw in seven points in the quarter for Archbold, but the ‘Straks could never get the lead on the Rams. Tinora’s Jared Neff’s bucket pushed the Tinora lead back to 33-25 with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams took a 33-27 lead into the fourth.

Nipping at the Rams’ heels since the half, Archbold finally caught the Rams with a Krieger steal and assist to Morgan Harris; the Harris hoop tied the game at 35-35 with 2:50 in the fourth quarter. After another Harris bucket, Archbold took their first lead since the first quarter, 41-39, with 1:50 remaining.

Josh Lieb’s three-point play, a basket, and a free throw, grabbed the lead back for Tinora, 42-41, with 1:19 on the clock. Tinora forced an Archbold missed shot with 45 seconds remaining, and a Bluestreaks foul sent Tinora to the line.

After two misses and a timeout, the Bluestreaks came out of the huddle. Tinora’s Lieb stole the ball with 15 seconds remaining. After an Archbold foul, Lieb nailed two free throws for a 44-41 Tinora advantage with 11 seconds on the clock.

After a coach Frank Archbold timeout, with a three-point play designed, the ‘Streak got off a good attempt, but the shot was no good, Jared Neff grabbed the rebound at the buzzer, and the Rams came away with their first win over Archbold sine 2103, 44-41.

The Tinora cheerleaders hosted 70+ elementary students on Biddy Cheer Night.

Great bench play for the Rams Koby Bumb and Elliot Horn. Despite not putting up great offensive stats in the game, the two gave coach Lymanstall much needed defensive play and great effort in the Tinora win.
