PAULDING – On a night when the Paulding Athletic Department honored veterans with Military Appreciation Night, it’s fitting that the turning point of the game came on a play that a player didn’t give up.
After a scoreless, turnover filled first quarter that saw the Rams and Panthers combined for 5 fumbles and four turnovers, the last 90 seconds of the half was a swing of emotions stronger than a teeter totter could whip up.
Tinora’s Jacob Bishop put the first points on the board for either team with a 29-yard field goal at the 4:17 mark in the half.
In the start of emotional swings, with 90 seconds left in the second quarter, the Rams saw a 50 yard TD pass fall through their fingers. On the very next play, Paulding’s Larkin Yates picked off a Tinora pass and looked to be headed for a 50 yard touchdown. But, Tinora’s Cole Anders never gave up on the play as it transpired, tracking down Yates with a lunging tackle at the Tinora 6-yard line.

After a fantastic defensive stand by the Rams through the first three downs, the Panthers trotted out field goal kicker Kobe Foor for a 25 yard attempt with 19 seconds remaining in the half.
Tinora’s Teron Ward appeared to block the ball at the line, deflecting it directly into the arms of teammate Dominic Graziani. Graziani raced 90 yards the other way with the ball into the end zone, putting the Rams up 10-0 after the Jacob Bishop extra point with seven seconds remaining in the half.
The second half started quickly for the Rams as it saw Tinora’s Brandon Edwards race 42 yards for a score at the 11:09 mark in the third quarter. Bishop’s XP make it Tinora 17-0.
The right leg of Rams sophomore Bishop make it Tinora 20 -0 as he put another field goal through the uprights, this time from 35 yards out with 5:32 left in the third quarter.
Cole Anders gave the Rams a 26-0 lead with 7:37 remaining in the contest as he scooted 33 yards for a Tinora touchdown, Bishop added the XP, the Rams led 27-0.
The lone Paulding score came with 1:08 remaining as quarterback Jacob Fife hit Caleb Larson for a 28 yard score down the right sideline. Jesse Shaffer added the two point conversion via run, Tinora led 27-8.
Tinora recovered the ensuing onside kick by the Panthers, running out the remaining 60 seconds.
With the win, Tinora improved to 5-3, 3-2 in the GMC. Tinora will host Edgerton next Friday night. Congratulations to Rams interim coach Jeff Schliesser on his first career win.
The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game went to Rams Cole Anders. Great game. Cole!v
