Tinora Rallies Past Wayne Trace, 20-14, Behind Ferrell’s Three Touchdown Passes

HAVILAND, Ohio — The Tinora Rams rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the Wayne Trace Raiders, 20-14, behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Owen Ferrell and a strong second-half defensive effort.

Tinora trailed 14-7 at halftime but scored twice in the third quarter to take the lead. The Rams then held Wayne Trace scoreless over the final two quarters, using a crucial interception by Braylen Blue and a fourth-down stop by Kobe Bumb and Carter Radzik to protect the six-point victory.

Facing a fourth-and-three from the Tinora 45-yard line with 55 seconds remaining in the game, the Rams defense came up with a huge stop, stopping the GMC’s leading rusher, Carter Baumlee and the Wayne Trace offense, forcing a turnover on downs and preserving the Rams’ win.

Rams open the scoring

Tinora struck first with 5:03 remaining in the opening quarter. After advancing into Wayne Trace territory, Ferrell connected with Braylen Blue for a 22-yard touchdown pass. The extra point by Jaxten DeWeese gave the Rams a 7-0 lead.

Wayne Trace answered late in the quarter. The Raiders’ Carter Baumlee took a handoff in from 11 yards out with 17 seconds remaining in the first stanza. The successful extra point by Jenson Beining tied the game at 7-7.

Raiders take a 14-7 halftime advantage

Wayne Trace continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, while Tinora missed an opportunity to even the score after moving into Raiders territory midway through the second quarter.

Ferrell completed a 27-yard pass to Owen Reynolds during the Rams’ second-quarter possession, but a subsequent interception ended the drive.

Wayne Trace capitalized on its next scoring opportunity, putting together a 68-yard drive. The Raiders used a 20-yard run by Braylen Sinn and several additional plays by Baumlee to move toward the goal line before scoring on a four-yard run by Baumlee with 34 seconds remaining in the half, for a second TD. The extra point by Beining gave Wayne Trace a 14-7 advantage at halftime.

Ferrell connects with Reynolds to tie the game

Tinora came out of halftime determined to change the momentum.

After Wayne Trace punted to start the third, the Rams took possession at their own 40-yard line and began moving downfield. Ferrell connected with Josh Lieb for an 11-yard gain, then found Reynolds for a 27-yard completion.

Davion Cooper added a 15-yard run to help move Tinora into scoring position.

With 6:44 remaining in the third quarter, Ferrell threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Reynolds. The extra point tied the contest at 14-14. Reynolds made a fantastic catch at the goal line for the Rams’ score. Jaxten DeWeese added the XP for Tinora.

Fumble recovery leads to the go-ahead score

The Rams gained another opportunity when Wayne Trace lost a fumble during its next possession. Tinora recovered the ball at the Raiders’ 41-yard line. Ian Gustwiller made the key recovery for the Rams defense.

Ferrell then connected with Cooper Replogle for a 17-yard completion to move closer to the end zone. Tinora continued its drive before Ferrell found Isaac Gunter for a 17-yard touchdown with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter.

The extra point was unsuccessful as DeWeese’s attempt hit the right upright and bounced away. But the touchdown gave the Rams a 20-14 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Tinora’s two third-quarter touchdowns turned a seven-point halftime deficit into a six-point advantage, and the Rams would not surrender the lead.

Blue’s interception helps protect the lead

Wayne Trace continued to fight in the fourth quarter, putting together a lengthy possession that moved the Raiders into Tinora territory with under three minutes remaining.

The Raiders eventually faced a third-and-long situation before Morehead’s pass was intercepted by Braylen Blue at the Tinora 7-yard line. Blue’s interception stopped the Raiders drive.

The Raiders made one final attempt late in the contest, advancing toward midfield before Tinora stopped a fourth-down rushing attempt near the Rams’ 45-yard line.

Tinora regained possession and used Ferrell’s quarterback kneel-downs to run out the clock.

Ferrell leads the Tinora offense

Ferrell completed 12 of 25 passes for 169 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. All three of Tinora’s touchdowns came through the air. Ferrell surpassed the 5,000 passing yard mark in his Tinora career.

Reynolds led the receiving corps with six catches for 92 yards. Blue caught a 22-yard touchdown pass, while Gunter added a 17-yard scoring reception. Lieb contributed three receptions for 21 yards, and Replogle had one catch for 17 yards.

On the ground, Davion Cooper led Tinora’s listed individual rushing totals with 42 yards on six carries. Replogle carried the ball 17 times for 29 yards.

The Rams finished with 223 yards of total offense according to the official team statistics, including 169 passing yards and 56 rushing yards.

Third-quarter turnaround seals the win

Tinora’s ability to capitalize on second-half opportunities proved decisive. Ferrell’s three touchdown passes provided the scoring punch, Reynolds delivered a productive receiving performance, and the Rams’ defense made key stops when Wayne Trace threatened.

After trailing at halftime, Tinora scored 13 unanswered points in the third quarter and held the Raiders scoreless the rest of the way.

The result was a hard-fought 20-14 victory for the Rams, who overcame the early deficit through timely offense and critical defensive plays.

Tinora improves to 4-4, 4-1 in the GMC. The Rams will host Ayersville next Friday as they try to keep their hopes of a GMC title alive.

Wayne Trace drops to 5-3, 3-2 in the GMC. The Raiders host Antwerp next Friday.
