Tinora makes school history with third consecutive regional semifinal appearance

FOSTORIA, Ohio — The Tinora Lady Rams had already accomplished something no volleyball team in school history had done before Thursday night. Unfortunately, one of the state’s top Division VI programs stood between them and another trip to the regional championship.

Tinora made school history Thursday evening, becoming the first Lady Rams volleyball team to reach the regional semifinals for the third consecutive season. But the historic run came to an end against a talented St. Henry Redskins squad, which used its size, athleticism and attacking depth to earn a 25-15, 25-12, 25-21 victory in an OHSAA Division VI regional semifinal at Fostoria High School.

The defeat brought Tinora’s season to a close at 20-6, while St. Henry improved to 22-4 and secured its second consecutive regional championship appearance.

For the Redskins, the victory continued a remarkable postseason tradition. St. Henry entered Thursday’s contest as the defending Division VI state runner-up and was looking for its 22nd regional final appearance.

For Tinora, the objective was equally significant. The Lady Rams were attempting to reach the regional finals for the third consecutive season and the fourth time in program history.

Although the final result did not go Tinora’s way, the Rams showed tremendous fight, particularly in the third set, and left Fostoria with another chapter added to one of the most successful stretches in program history.

Redskins’ Size and Firepower Create Early Separation

From the opening serve, St. Henry made it clear that Tinora would have its hands full at the net.

The Redskins quickly established control, racing out to a 10-2 advantage in the opening set. Four Tinora errors and four St. Henry kills helped fuel the early run as the Redskins took advantage of their height and offensive firepower.

St. Henry featured five players standing 5-foot-10 or taller, creating matchup problems for the Lady Rams throughout the evening.

Sophomore outside hitter Karlee Baumer helped lead the early attack, while the Redskins demonstrated their depth by having six different players record kills in the opening set alone.

Tinora spent much of the opening stretch defending against St. Henry’s powerful front line. Despite the difficult start, the Rams refused to surrender.

The Lady Rams settled down and played nearly even with the Redskins through the remainder of the set, but the early deficit proved too difficult to overcome. Tinora was unable to cut the margin below seven points as St. Henry claimed the opening set, 25-15.

Dominique, freshman Braleigh Addington, and Wells combined for seven kills in the first set, providing the foundation for a much stronger offensive showing later in the match.

Tinora Shows Early Fight, But Redskins Take Command

The Lady Rams came out with renewed energy in the second set, and sophomore outside hitter Addison Dominique immediately made her presence felt.

Dominique accounted for Tinora’s first three points of the set, helping the Rams remain within striking distance of the Redskins.

A St. Henry attacking error gave Tinora its first lead of the match at 5-4, creating an opportunity for the Rams to change the momentum.

However, the Redskins quickly answered with a four-point run that restored their advantage and gave them separation they would never relinquish.

St. Henry continued to pressure Tinora with its aggressive attack, forcing the Rams to play defense and limiting their opportunities to establish a consistent offensive rhythm.

The Redskins eventually stretched their advantage to 19-10, using another 6-1 scoring run to put the set firmly in their control.

St. Henry closed out the second set, 25-12, moving within one set of a return trip to the regional championship.

Despite the two-set deficit, Tinora still had plenty of fight left.

Addington Sparks Tinora’s Third-Set Surge

With their season hanging in the balance, the Lady Rams delivered their most impressive stretch of the evening in the third set.

Tinora came out attacking, rather than simply trying to defend against the Redskins’ powerful front line.

Dominique opened the scoring with a kill off a feed from senior setter Ella Schaublin, immediately setting a more aggressive tone for the Rams.

The offense continued to find opportunities as Dominique, Addington, Wells and Schaublin combined for nine of Tinora’s first 13 points.

The Rams gradually built their advantage, eventually taking a 13-9 lead and forcing St. Henry to respond.

Freshman Addington played a major role in the shift in momentum, delivering back-to-back kills early in the set to help Tinora establish a 10-7 advantage and force the Redskins to use their first timeout of the evening.

For the first time in the match, St. Henry was being forced to adjust to Tinora’s offensive pressure.

The Rams appeared poised to extend the match, but St. Henry gradually began working its way back.

A disputed point, in which Tinora believed it had successfully dug out a ball before the first referee ruled that it had hit the floor, drew visible frustration from the Tinora sidelines.

The decision appeared to spark the Redskins, who quickly pulled even at 13-13.

Tinora continued to battle and regained a 17-15 advantage on a Wells kill, but St. Henry’s experience and attacking depth eventually proved too much.

The Redskins took 10 of the final 14 points to close out the set, 25-21, completing the straight-set victory and ending Tinora’s postseason run.

Hagerty Proud of Her Team’s Fight

Despite the loss, Tinora head coach Bretta Hagerty was quick to recognize the challenge presented by the Redskins while expressing pride in her team’s refusal to quit.

“Congrats to St. Henry, they just have a lot of guns up front,” Hagerty said.”

Hagerty also emphasized the competitive spirit that has become a defining characteristic of the Tinora program.

“We could have given up so easily, but we never have, and we didn’t tonight. We scratched and clawed with what we had all the way to the end.”

Thursday’s appearance marked Hagerty’s sixth regional semifinal as Tinora’s head coach since taking over the program in 2015.

The experience of competing against a state-ranked opponent provided another valuable opportunity for a young Tinora roster accustomed to playing deep into the postseason.

Dominique Leads Tinora Attack; Schaublin Directs Offense

The Lady Rams received several important individual contributions throughout the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Addison Dominique led Tinora with 12 kills, consistently providing an offensive option against St. Henry’s experienced front line.

Junior Kalli Wells added seven kills, while freshman Braleigh Addington finished with six kills. Addington’s back-to-back kills in the third set helped ignite Tinora’s strongest offensive stretch.

Senior setter Ella Schaublin directed the attack with 25 assists, helping distribute the ball throughout the Rams’ lineup.

Two Seniors Leave Behind an Outstanding Legacy

Thursday’s match also marked the final appearance in a Tinora uniform for seniors Ella Schaublin, who is heading to Transylvania in the fall of 2027, and Riley Baldwin.

The two veterans played important roles in one of the most successful three-year stretches in Lady Rams volleyball history.

Baldwin, a serving specialist, finished her career with 59 service aces. Schaublin concluded her outstanding career with 2,222 assists, leaving behind an impressive record of leadership and offensive production.

Together, the two seniors helped Tinora compile an outstanding 71-10 record over their final three seasons.

Their accomplishments included:

  • Two conference championships.
  • One regional championship.
  • Three consecutive district championships.
  • Three consecutive regional semifinal appearances.

Baldwin’s quiet consistency and Schaublin’s vocal leadership helped provide the foundation for a team that consistently found success during the postseason.

Their departure will leave a significant leadership void, but their contributions to the program will not soon be forgotten. Best of luck to both; it’s been a pleasure covering you during your volleyball careers.

Valuable Experience for Tinora’s Returning Players

While the Lady Rams say goodbye to two important seniors, the future remains promising.

Tinora had five freshmen and sophomores and five juniors see playing time during Thursday’s regional semifinal, giving a large portion of the roster valuable experience on one of the biggest stages in high school volleyball.

For the younger players, the opportunity to compete in three consecutive regional tournaments should pay dividends in seasons to come.

Hagerty believes the impact extends beyond just the players who saw time on the court.

“These underclassmen will have no idea until we are back in this situation again what this has done for them,” Hagerty said.

The Lady Rams’ returning players will have the opportunity to build on the foundation established by this year’s senior class as they look to continue Tinora’s recent run of postseason success.

Five Lady Rams Recognized by the GMC

Tinora’s success during the 2026 season was also reflected in the Green Meadows Conference All-Conference selections, with five Lady Rams earning recognition.

The Rams placed three players on the First Team All-GMC squad.

Senior setter Ella Schaublin, junior libero/defensive specialist Macy Behnfeldt and freshman outside hitter Braleigh Addington all earned First Team honors.

Sophomore outside hitter Addison Dominique was named to the Second Team, while sophomore outside hitter Kalli Wells received Honorable Mention recognition.

Patrick Henry Makes History, Advances to First Regional Final

The second Division VI regional semifinal Thursday evening featured Patrick Henry and Mohawk, with both teams looking to earn a place in Saturday’s championship match.

Patrick Henry entered the contest undefeated at 25-0 and was making its first regional semifinal appearance since 2005.

The Patriots had previously gone 0-3 in regional semifinals and were looking to break through to their first regional final appearance in program history.

Mohawk, meanwhile, returned to the regional semifinals for the first time since 2023. The Warriors were looking for their first regional victory since 2011.

Patrick Henry came out strong, taking the opening set, 25-23, before pulling away in the second set, 25-13, to establish a commanding 2-0 advantage.

Mohawk refused to let its season end without a fight.

The Warriors battled back in the third set, narrowly escaping with a 26-24 victory to extend the match and force a fourth set.

However, Patrick Henry controlled the final set from start to finish, pulling away for a convincing 25-15 victory.

The four-set triumph secured a historic milestone for the Patriots, who improved to 26-0 and advanced to the regional championship for the first time in school history.

Mohawk finished its season with an impressive 21-5 record.

Saturday’s Regional Championship: Undefeated Patriots Meet Experienced Redskins

The undefeated Patrick Henry Patriots, now 26-0, will face the St. Henry Redskins, who improved to 22-4, on Saturday, November 7, at 2 p.m. at Fostoria High School.

Patrick Henry will attempt to continue its perfect season while capturing the program’s first regional championship.

St. Henry, meanwhile, will look to advance beyond the regional level for the second consecutive season after finishing as the Division VI state runner-up in 2025.

The Redskins bring considerable postseason experience, height and offensive depth into the matchup against a Patrick Henry team that has yet to lose this season.

One program will continue its pursuit of a state championship, while the other will see its historic season come to an end.
