The Napoleon Wildcats and Tinora Rams met on a blustery, chilly Saturday afternoon that was better suited for a Wildcats and Rams football game.
The bundled-up crowd saw each team plate a single run in the first inning. Black Wolf’s RBI single scored Trey Rubinstein to put the Wildcats on top 1-0.
Tinora’s Dalton Wolfrum scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first, tying the game at 1-1.
As the winds picked up and the temp slowly began to fall, the Tinora defense seemed to take a step back in the top of the third inning, as the Rams committed four errors.
Napoleon smacked five hits as they would send nine batters to the plate, breaking the game open with five runs, and grabbing a 6-1 lead.
The Rams would start to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. The Rams would score three runs, trimming the Wildcat lead to 6-4.
Kadyn Radzik’s RBI single plated Grady Gustwiller and another Napoleon passed ball scored Dalton Wolfrum in the inning.
Tinora’s Eli Plassman and Napoleon’s Owen Espinoza started, and both were very effective despite the chilly temps and strong winds.
The Game would remain 6-4 in Napoleon’s favor until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Tinora would mount a one-out rally, started by back-to-back opposite-field singles by Dalton Wolfrum and Teron Ward. Alec Schaublin would send a double to the wall in center, scoring Wolfrum, and cutting the ‘Cats lead to 6-5.
Teron Ward would tie the game at 6-6 as he would score off a sacrifice fly by Hinter Bostelman.
The Rams had a chance for the win, as Grady Gustwiller sent a bases-loaded liner right at centerfield Trey Rubinstein who made a running sliding catch to end the Rams seventh.
Napoleon would grab an 8-6 lead as they would score two runs in the top of the ninth. Trey Rubinstein would walk to start the inning. Blake Wold would follow with a single, putting Wildcats on first and second with no outs.
Rubinstein would steal third base, and score on another Rams error, giving the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.
Napoleon added another run on a Parker Woods RBI, scoring Wold to give the ‘Cats an 8-6 lead.
Blake Wold would close out the Rams in the bottom of the ninth, retiring the Rams in order to secure the save.
Luke Hardy picked up the win, pitching 2 1.3 innings of relief.
BJ Morlock would take the loss for the Rams
Tinora falls to 8-3 and will host Montpelier on Monday, Ayersville on Tuesday, Antwerp on Thursday, and travel to Kalida on Saturday.
Napoleon improves to 8-5-1. The Wildcats will host Springfield on Monday, and Anthony Wayne on Wednesday, and Maumee on Friday.
