As the Lady Rams closed the summer and fall off season training programs, I’m sure most of the ladies thought to themselves, ‘boy, I sure hope all this running pays off.”
Well, in the season opener vs the Miller City Lady Wildcats, all that off season conditioning most certainly paid off.
In a rotation that could extend 10+ deep at times this season, head coach Kyle Tietje and staff certainly could see the unlimited combinations that can be paired this season.
With just a lone senior suiting up this season, Amanda Meyer, this Lady Rams team is young and very talented. This was all shown tonight as the Wildcats of Miller City came to visit in the season opener for both teams.
Miller City was coming in off a 15-9 season, a deep run in the 2020-’21 OHSAA playoffs, and with ’20-’21 PCL first teamer Abi Lammers. The Lady Rams have been looking forward to this season since the final buzzer of last season’s 10-13 season.
Tinora came out firing on all cylinders in the initial quarter, outscoring the Wildcats of Miller City 18-12. The Lady Rams Amanda Meyer and the Lady ‘Cats Abli Lammers battled it out in the first, Meyer with 7 points, Lammers with 10 in the first quarter.
As the Lady Rams took a six point lead into the second, Lammers picked up her second foul midway in the quarter, she would not see any more action in the half. With Lammers saddled to the bench, the Lady Rams were unable to increase their lead, taking a 28-25 lead to the half.
Throughout the third, both teams battled, The Lady Rams building an 11 point lead, seeing it cut to just two after Lammers drained a three at the end of the quarter, Tinora led 40-38.
Heading to the fourth, the Lady Rams deep bench, and conditioning was certainly a factor. With Lammers catching fire again, ending with a game high 22 points and 16 rebounds, Tinora looked to slow the PCL star. Tinora increased their lead to as many as eight midway through the quarter, but Lammers and the Wildcats would battle back, cutting the lead to just three. The Lady Rams would spend a majority of the last three minutes at the line. Splitting free throws and slowing down Lammers the last few trips down the floor enabled the Lady Rams to hang on to a season opening win over Miller City, 55-48.
The Higbea Embroidery Player of the game went to Amanda Meyer, Meyer not originally scheduled to play, finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Great job Amanda.
Tinora improves to 1-0 and will host Bryan on Tuesday, Nov 23.
Miller City drops to 0-1 and will host Corey-Rowson on Monday, Nov 29.
