Kalida 42 Tinora 31

JEWELL – A story of two separate halves was the difference on Parents Night at Tinora High School.

With both teams coming in playing their best ball of the season, the red-hot Kalida Ladycats brought in their six game winning streak and 14-5 record against the Lady Rams of Tinora.

Coach Teil has had the Lady Rams playing their best ball of the season, winning three straight, and six of their last nine contests.

A tight first quarter would end with both teams tied at 7-7.

The second quarter saw the Lady Rams grow to as much as five, at 12-7 on a Liv Mueller jumper, 12-7 with 7:10 on the clock.

After a coach Huber timeout, the Ladycats responded, going on an 11-5 run to end the half. Several minutes passed during the middle of the second quarter, with the score at 12-7.

Despite the low scoring quarter, Tinora entered the half with a 17-16 lead in a very sluggish half for both teams.

Kalida’s senior Camile Vovest dominated the inside with the Lady Rams Addison Lee saddled to the bench with two early fouls.

The second half would begin with coach Huber dialing up the heat with a full court press that forced. Andrea Burgei started the Kalida run with a steal and score, taking an 18-17 lead with 7:10 remaining in the third.

Ladycats would never trail, scoring the first six points of the quarter and stretching the Kalida lead to 31-21 after three.

The Kalida defense would put the clamps on the Lady Rams top two scorers, Nova Okuley and Liv Muller, limiting the two to just two points in the second half, and a total of 15 total points from both.

Tinora could never get the offense on track in the second half, Kalida would stretch the lead in the fourth, coming away with a 42-31 win over the Lady Rams.

The Ladycats were led by Hovest and her 13 points in the paint.

The Lady Rams fall to 9-9, and will travel to Paulding on Thursday to take on the Panthers in a GMC game.

The Ladycats of Kalida improve to 15-4. They will travel to Leipsic on 2/4.
