ANTWERP – The Tinora Lady Rams and the Antwerp Lady Archers met at “The Range” at Antwerp High School in the regular season and conference final game.
Both teams entered the final regular season game as they were looking in the mirror at each other, both with 12-9 overall records, both 3-3 in the GMC, and both playing their best ball over the last three weeks of the season.
The Lady Archers entered winning 6 of 8 games, 4 of 5, while the Lady Rams entered with a three game winning streak, and victories in their last 6 of 7 contests.
From the outset of the initial quarter, the Lady Rams were battling from behind and never were able to catch a break. The Lady Archers would lead from start to finish.
The Initial quarter was dominated by Antwerp and Hayleigh Jewell. Jewell led the Archers with seven first quarter points and a 12-4 lead after one quarter of play.
As play began to get more and more physical as the second quarter unwound, the Lady Archers would take control, taking a 24-12 lead to the half.
The Lady Rams would limit Antwerp to just three points in the third quarter, another physical quarter. Unfortunately for the Tinora offense, they just couldn’t get on tack, scoring just five points themselves as the Lady Archers would lead 27-17 after three.
The fourth quarter would finally see the physical play toned down, but it was a bit too late, both teams would spend the entire quarter at the line it seemed.
The Archers would bucket 17 fourth quarter points, while the Tinora points would mostly come from the line as well, bucketing 16 points in the final quarter.
The Lady Archers would walk away on Senior Night for the Archers with a 44-33 win over the Lady Rams.
Unfortunately for the Tinora defense, the three-headed monster of McMichael, Jewell, and Rohs would account for 42 of the 44 Lady Archers points.
The Archer’s rough defense would limit Tinora’s leading scorer, Liv Mueller, to just one bucket, a three pointer.
Tinora ends the regular season at 12-10, 3-4 in the GMC. Tinora will play Bluffton next Wednesday at Ayersville at 7:30 pm in the opening round of the OHSAA tournament.
Antwerp improves to 13-9, 4-3 in conference play. Antwerp will play Edon on 2/16 at Bryan High School at 6 pm
