A full house at Justin F Coressel Stadium witnessed the Tinora Rams play their best game of the season in a 35-7 GMC win over the Wayne Trace Raiders.
As the Tinora Cheerleaders hosted approx 120 elementary future cheerleaders, the bitty cheer was in full effect tonight as they, as well as an amped up Tinora student section, supplied the Rams crowd & players with some much-needed electricity.
With the 2021 edition of the Rams football team still looking for that all around complete game, they set to host the Raiders of Wayne Trace on another steamy Friday Night under the lights.
Tinora entered the contest at 3-1, while Wayne Trace was coming in under first year coach Holden at 1-3. Both teams registered GMC wins last week as conference play started,
It took a few drives, but the Tinora offense seemed to finally hit on all cylinders. With 5:55 remaining in the first quarter, Rams RB KP Delarber hit pay dirt with a 25 yard TD run, XP was good, putting the Rams up 7-0.
On the next possession, Tinora again hit a big play, this time via the air. Rams senior QB Nolan Schafer hit a wide open Cole Commisso for a 26 yard TD, XP was good giving the Rams a 14-0 lead with 3:55 remaining in the first quarter.
Still looking for more, Tinora RB Brandon Edwards took it in from 5 yards out, Camp’s XP was good with 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Tinora led 21-0 as the quarter ended.
With 7:06 remaining in the second quarter, sophomore sensation Grady Gustwiller hauled in a Nolan Schafer pass from 72 yards, giving Tinora a 28-0 lead that stood to the half.
After a near perfect first half, Tinora looked to keep the chain on the bike as they took the field for the second half.
The Tinora defense, again applying pressure all night long, limited the Raiders to just 86 total first half yards. Raider starting QB Cooper Wenzlick was unable to play, starting in his place was Cale Winans.
Wayne Trace finally broke through, a Cale Winans 18 yard TD pass to Race Price cut the Tinora lead to 28-7 with 4:47 remaining in the third quarter.
The Tinora offense used a ball control game plan in the second half, scoring their only points on a KP Delarber 1 yard TD run, Dylan Camp hit the XP, giving the Rams a 35-7 lead woth 11:27 remaining in the final stanza.
The Rams controlled the ball and the clock in the fourth, running out the clock, clinching victory, improving to 4-1 overall, and 2-0 in the GMC.
The loss drops Wayne Trace to 1-4, 1-1 in the GMC.
The Tinora Rams piled up 20 first downs, 438 total yards, 281 on the ground, and 157 through the air.
All was not a bed of roses for the Rams however, Tinora turned the ball over 4 times and had 9 penalties in the win.
River Rivalry, Victory Bell. Those four words are all that is needed over the next 6 days as the Rams will head to Ayersville to take on the Pilots in a key GMC contest next Friday night.
The Pilots improved to 3-1, 1-0 in the GMC with a 48-6 win over Hicksville Friday.
Tonight’s Higbea Embroidery Player of the game award goes to Grady Gustwiller. Gustwiller hauled in a 72 yd TD pass, and played a fantastic game on defense as well as special teams. Congratulations Grady.
