Tinora hires Essig as athletic director


Jake Essig has been named the new athletic director at Tinora High School.

Monday, the Northeastern Local Board of Education has hired Essig as the replacement for outgoing Athletic Director, Craig Rutter.

Coach Rutter’s last official day is scheduled for June 30. Rutter took over as the AD in 2014 as is retiring from education after nearly 50 years.

Jake Essig currently serves as the Technical Director Technical at the Fort Wayne Sport Club, where he as served since Feb of 2020.

Essig previously served as the head men’s soccer coach at the University of Saint Francis from 2020-2023, as well as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from 2014-2020.

Jake Essig earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation management from Huntington University in 2014 and completed a master’s degree in coaching from Indiana State University in 2016 while being named graduate student of the year.

He also holds a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma, a Sports Performance Coaching License from USA Weightlifting, and is a registered athletic administrator through the Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

The Tinora family welcomes Jake and his wife Samantha.
