Stryker 66 Tinora 61 F/OT

JEWELL – A near standing room only crowd watched as a packed the Tinora gym on Biddy Cheerleader Night saw one for the ages. What the crowd witnessed was a fantastic comeback by the Rams, an epic final 1.8 seconds, and an OT thriller.

Stryker came out in the first quarter blazing. The Panthers would hit six three-pointers, grabbing a 17-3 lead, before the Rams rallied in the final minutes to trail 18-7 after one quarter. Stryker was 6 of 9 on threes in the initial quarter. Daniel Donovan and Mateo Villanueva scorched the nets for nine points each.

The second quarter would see the Panthers increase their lead to as many as 20, 29-9 with just under four minutes in the half.

Rams coach Kris Lymanstall gathered the troops, and they would respond for a comeback for the ages.

Tinora would begin to mount a rally, closing out the half on an 8-1 run. Stryker would lead at the half, 30-17. Eli Plassman’s two late three-pointers kept the Rams in the game, trailing by just 13.

Daniel Donovan and Villanueva would be limited to just one combined point in the second after each bucketed nine first-quarter points.

The Third quarter would see Tinora continue the epic rally, finally catching the Panthers at 32-32 as they outscored Stryker15-2 over the first five minutes of the third quarter.

Tinora would take their first lead, 35-32 on a Luke Harris deep three-pointers from the left corner. The Rams would exit the quarter leading, 35-34.

Aiden Rittenhouse and Luke Harris would fuel the Rams comeback in the quarter. Rittenhouse would bucket 10 second-half three-pointerthree-pointer points.
Luke Harris would bucket 24 points in the second half, trying to complete the comeback for Tinora.

The fourth quarter was as good as they come, the Panthers and Rams battling literally down to the final second.

Tinora would stretch their lead out to as many as eight, 44-36 with just under five minutes remaining.

Stryker would get the hot hand over the next three minutes, started by a Levi Barnum banked three pointer, trimming the Rams lead to 44-39 with 3:35 left in the fourth.

The Panthers would take the lead 47-46 on a left-wing three by Daniel Donovan with just over 60 seconds remaining in regulation.

Tinora’s Harris would hit one of two free throws, tying the game at 47 with 55 seconds on the clock.

Levi Barnum would be fouled, hitting both free throws with 46 seconds left, giving the Panthers a 49-47 advantage.

Stryker would build a 52-47 lead with eight seconds left, after a missed Panther free throw, a deep three by Tinora’s Harris from the right wing would cut the lead to 52-50 with 2.8 seconds left.

The Rams Cole Anders would steal the inbounds pass at 1.8 seconds remaining, knocking it off a Panther as he headed out of bounds.

In a “you have to be there to believe it” moment, Tinora’s Gavin Echert would attempt the inbounds pass five times, four of them would be deflected off the Panthers 6′ 6″ Elijah Julliard. On the fifth attempt, Eckert would hit Harris on the left wing, and Harris would be fouled on the inbound pass as time expired, heading to the free throw line with the clock at 0.00.

The senior, shooting 88% from the line, hit both, tying the game at 52-52.

Unfortunately, the Stryker Panthers would dominate the OT period, outscoring the Rams of Tinora 14-9, heading back to Stryker with a 66-61 win.

Michael Donovan of Stryker would score all five of his points in the crucial OT period.

This was Stryker’s second straight OT win, defeating Edon last night, 51-50.

Tinora falls to 5-8. The Rams will host Ayersville on Friday and travel to Hilltop Saturday.

Stryker climbs back to 7-7. The Panthers will host Montpelier on Jan 20.
