Ayersville 41 Tinora 36

DEFIANCE – Everything that went right in a year ago for Tinora at the DTP Classic went wrong in the 37th edition of the 2022 Classic on the same court at Defiance High School.

The Lady Rams were plagued all game with missed opportunities, missed shots and ultimately, the turnover bug was the deciding factor in the Ayersville 41-36 win over the Lady Rams in game one of the 2022 Defiance Physical Therapy Classic.

The Lady Pilots and Lady Rams battled throughout a tight first quarter, Ayersville would grab an 11-10 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Tinora would jump out to a 17-13 lead, then the first bout of turnovers hit the Lady Rams. Ayersville would score seven straight quick points, grabbing a 20-19 lead at the half.

Tinora’s Addison Lee had a great half, scoring eight points to lead the Lady Rams.
Ayersville’s Neva Sheets would score eight, Ally Schindler would bucket seven in the opening half.

The third quarter would see rough and rugged play by both teams, Ayersville and Tinora would be tied at 26-26 to end the third, The Lady Pilots Ally Schindler would tie it at the buzzer to end the quarter.

Ayersville’s Ally Schindler would have a game high 17 points, living at the free throw line in the second half, bucketing 7 free throws, and nine total in the game.

The fourth quarter would see Ayersville take a 34-30 lead midway through the final stanza. Tinora would cut it to 34-32 on a Dakota Sine five footer from the right block with just under four minutes remaining.

Tinora had a chance for the lead at the two-minute mark, but the shots just didn’t fall.

Kirsten Manon would both make free throws, giving Ayersville a 35-33 lead with just under two minutes remaining.

Tinora would have another chance to tie or take the lead, more turnovers hurt the Rams in the final 90 seconds.

After four Schindler free thrown would give Ayersville a 39-33 lead, Tinora’s Nova Okuley would drain a three, cutting the Lady Pilot lead to 39-36 with nine seconds remaining.

Nova Okuley would have a great second half for Tinora, scoring 11 points.

After a Tinora time out, the Lady Rams would foul, sending Ayersville’s Neva Sheets to the line. Sheets would miss the first free throw, unfortunately, Tinora could not corral the rebound, losing it out of bounds. The Lady Pilots would gain the key possession with 6.1 seconds remaining.

Tinora would foul Schindler, she would bucket the two free throws for the Lady Pilots.

That would be the last time Tinora would see the ball as Ayersville would close the game with those final two points by Schindler, defeating the 2021 DTP Champs, the Tinora Rams, 41-36.

Ayersville’s Kaylee Dockery, limited to one point in the first three quarters, would score 6 huge points for the Lady Pilots in the final 5 minutes.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 2-3 and will play Defiance tomorrow at 6 pm in the Defiance Physical Therapy Consolation game.

Archbold defeated Defiance 43-36 in the second game of the DPT Classic Monday night from DHS.
