Tinora 56 Hilltop 46

JEWELL – The Tinora Lady Rams came into the Monday night contest looking for their first win as a team in 2022, looking to give first year head coach Andrew Thiel his first win, and also looking for the delivery of their home white uniforms.

Due to the latter, the Lady Rams and the Lady Cadets would end up with a great uniform matchup, one that would definitely put anyone in the Christmas spirit. Hilltop trotted out in their road reds, while the Lady Rams were forced to wear their road greens. Somewhere, Santa was smiling from ear to ear down on Tinora High School.

The Lady Rams haven’t had much success finding the bottom of the net through the first two games, however tonight was a new chapter.

Tinora Senior Liv Mueller came out a blazing, scoring 12 points in the initial quarter, bucketing four three pointers for a Lady Rams 17-12 lead after one.

The first half was the Mueller & Baker show. Hilltop sensational sophomore Libbie Baker would match Tinora’s Mueller point for point most of the night. Baker would score 13 points in the half, eight in the second quarter.

Tinora would take a 28-21 lead to the locker room.

Hilltop came out in the third and put the clamps down on Tinora’s Muller, the Lady Rams had a backup plan. The Okuley’s, Karli and Nova, both scored in double figures in the second half as the Lady Cadets limited Mueller to just four second half points. Tinora would exit the third quarter with a 45-22 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Cadets were riding the hot hand of Libbie Baker, Baker with 23 second half points, tried to will the Lady Cadets to a comeback win. Unfortunately, Hilltop could never get closer than 10 pints in the final quarter. The lead would bounce from 12 to 10 throughout the last five minutes, with the Lady Rams coming away with their first victory of the new season.

The Higbea Embroidery Player of the Game award went to Liv Mueller, congratulations Liv!

With the win, the Rams improve to 1-2. Tinora will travel to Continental Thursday to take on the Pirates.

Hilltop falls to 2-2 with the loss. The Lady Cadets will host Stryker on 12/2.

Congratulations to coach Thiel on his first career varsity win.
