Zolman’s no-hitter, McQuillin’s bomb, clinches GMC for Lady Rams

PAULDING – In a game with only one run scored between the two teams, much excitement was in the air at Paulding as the Lady Rams traveled over to take on the Paulding Lady Panthers in a Green Meadows Conference game.

Tinora entered at 11-3, 6-0 in the GMC, while the Lady Panthers of Paulding entered at 11-6, 3-3 in conference play.

Scylea Zolman, the sophomore righty for the Lady Rams was again in the circle for Tinora, Paulding sent freshman Jalyn Klopfenstien to the circle.

Both teams went scoreless through the first five innings, with only the Lady Rams threatening to score in the top of the fourth before an inning ending double play put out the Tinora fire.

Tinora again threatened in the top of the fifth, leaving a runner stranded at third.

With palms sweaty on both sides as the teams entered the six inning still scoreless, the Lady Rams sent second baseman Logan McQuillin to the plate with two outs. McQuillin sent a deep drive over the fence for a solo homerun, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead after six and one half innings.

Tinora’s Zolman was in full control, yet to allow a hit the sophomore allowed a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth, then proceeded to retire the Panthers in order in the sixth.

Tinora was three outs away from another Zolman no hitter. Zolman also had a no hitter vs Patrick Henry earlier in the season.

With victory in sight, Zolman and the Lady Rams truck out the Lady Panthers in order, sending the Lady Rams to win #12.

Zolman would walk just one while striking out 13 in her win.

After the game, the Lady Rams learned that Wayne Trace suffered their second GMC loss, tonight at the hands of Antwerp, losing 4-2. The Raiders loss combined with the Lady Rams win means the Tinora Lady Rams and first year coach Tony Fairchild clinch the 2022 GMC Championship.

Tinora improves to 12-3 on the season with the win. The Lady Rams are 6-0 in the conference with a full week of games next week scheduled.

Congratulations to coached and Lady Rams players on your 2022 GMC Championship.

But, this is just a small climb on a larger goal this season.
