Antwerp 64 Tinora 39

ANTWERP: As they headed to Antwerp to face the #1 team in DIV IV, the Archers of Antwerp, Tinora’s head coach Kris Lymanstall knew it would take a near perfect game to shut down the Archers.

It was also senior night as the Archers honored their seven seniors, Kaden Recker, Gaige McMichael, Jagger Landers, Luke Krouse, Kaden Phares, Owen Sheedy, and Mason Steel.

Also honored by the Archers staff were the Rams seniors who did not get a senior night due to the cancelation of their Thursday night game vs Pettisville. Honored were Tinora seniors Lance Rinkel, Kegan Miles, Nolan Schafer, Eric Bohn, and Tyler Wiemken.

Another task for the Rams was the reigning two time GMC player of the year, and soon to be three time POY, Jagger Landers. Landers, who recently became the school’s all-time leading scorer, came in averaging just under 20 PPG.

Through the first six minutes, the Rams and Archers were tied at 9-9. The Archers ended the quarter on a 5-0 run, taking a 14-9 lead after one quarter. Landers scored 13 of the 14 Archer points in the quarter.

The second quarter saw more of the future Findlay Oiler, Jagger Landers. Landers blistered the nets for eight more points in the second, finishing with a 22 point first half. Landon Brewer pitched in four for the Archers as they Led the Rams 27-19 at the half.

Tinora had two in the scoring column at the half, senior Nolan Schafer had nine, while Jr Luke Harris pitched in 10.

Quarter three saw much of the same, more Landers and more Brewer. Landers would end with 37 points, Brewer with 14 as the Archers extended their lead to 47-31 after three. The Rams did battle through the third, at one time only trailing by six midway through the quarter, 33-27, before a fiery timeout by Archers head coach Doug Billman.

The final quarter was all Antwerp, they eventually would pull away from the pesky Rams. Antwerp would wind up with a 64-39 victory in the GMC finale for both teams.

Seeing his first action since a football injury cut his basketball season short, senior Hunter Sproles found the bottom of the net in the final moments, sending the crowd to their feet, saluting the senior Archer Sproles.

The Rams regular season ends at 5-15, 1-6 in the GMC. Tinora will tune up for the sectional opener on Tuesday vs Fairview at Miller City, tip at 7:30 pm.

The Archers improve to 20-1, 6-1 in the GMC. Antwerp finishes the regular season with a non conference game vs FT Wayne Christian before starting the tournament trail.

Wayne Trace is the 2022 GMC Champs, finishing at 7-0.
