BLUFFTON – After meeting in the regular season in an instant classic, both the Lady Rams and the Lady Apaches started the 2022 OHSAA tournament trail by loading the busses and heading south. Way south, actually, both teams made the hr bus trip to Bluffton High School to meet in the sectional opener.
Fairview came in playing as well as anyone in the area, sporting a 15-7 mark, winning eight of their last nine contests. The Lady Rams came in with a 14-8 mark, a bit of a roller coaster ride after the change of the year, Tinora came in 6-5 in 2022 after an 8-3 2021.
The Lady Apaches got off to a great start, leading after the first quarter, 12-6. Fairview used the inside game of Allison Rhodes to move to a six point lead.
Quarter two saw the Lady Rams use a 14-4 run midway through to grab a 21-19 lead at the half. Rhodes paced Fairview with seven at the half, while Tinora was led by Liv Mueller and Nova Okuley each with seven points.
The Third quarter saw the Lady Rams increase their lead to 24-19 as Anna Gray converted a three point play. Fairview wasted little time, getting right back into the game after a Carrie Zeedyke bucket, Allison Rhodes free throws, and a followup bucket gave Fairview a 25-24 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the third.
The teams would trade the lead multiple times throughout the quarter, Fairview would exit the third quarter with a 33-32 lead.
The fourth quarter would see Fairview continue to pound the ball to Allison Rhodes, Rhodes would finish with a game high 20 points. The Lady Apaches would see their lead grow to as much as five, 46-41. Carrie Zeedyke pitched in 10 second half points to aid the Fairview cause.
Tinora senior Amanda Meyer, the hero in game one with 20 points, would close out a three point play, cutting the Fairview lead to 46-44 with 60 seconds remaining.
The Apaches would head to the line over the remaining 50 seconds, converting four free throws to come away with a 50-46 win over the Lady Rams.
Fairview will move on to play Saturday afternoon in the Sectional final vs Van Buren at 3 pm at Bluffton High School.
Tinora sees their season end at 14-9.
Lady Rams senior Amanda Meyer closes out her career with 7 points. Thank you Amanda!!
