Twirlers, elementary basketballers, and a great home crowd saw the final home game for the Tinora Lady Rams as they kept their hope for a GMC title alive with a hard fought 46-41 win over the Antwerp Lady Archers.
In picking up win 13 on the season, also improving to 4-2 in conference play, the Lady Rams need to take care of business tomorrow at Edgerton, and hope for two outcomes in games of interest.
Fairview travels to Hicksville and Wayne Trace travels to Ayersville, the Lady Rams need victories by themselves, Hicksville, and Wayne Trace to share the GMC title for this season, their first since 2010.
Things were off and running for Tinora to start the game Wednesday night, a makeup game from last Thursday which was postponed due to the Midwest snowstorm that rocked NW Ohio. The Lady Rams burst to a quick 12-4 lead.
Senior Archer Astianna Coppes carried Antwerp in the initial quarter, scoring the Archers first seven points, bucketing 11 in the quarter. Tinora exited the quarter with a 15-13 lead.
In a second quarter that saw lots of points, as well as lots of fouls, Coppes would continue to score, ending the half with 15 points, as well as Tinora’s Live Mueller and Nova Okuley catching fire as well. Okuley with 11 first half points, Mueller with nine for the Lady Rams as the game was tied 29-29 at the half, teams combined for 21 total team fouls.
The Lady Rams second half defense was key in the win over Antwerp. In limiting Coppes to just two second half points, it came out of the half with a purpose.
The Lady Rams limited the Lady Archers to just 11 second half points in the suffocating second half.
After three quarters, the Lady Rams actually trailed 37-33.
Antwerp senior leader Coppes picked up foul number four with the Archers leading 41-38 with 4:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Lady Rams defense and Liv Mueller would explode over the next few minutes.|
After forcing an Antwerp turnover, Muller was fouled on the way to the bucket, Liv Muller hit both, cutting the Archer lead to just one, 41-40 with under four minutes remaining.
After working patiently for a good shot, taking 45 seconds off the clock in doing so, the Lady Rams offense found Muller open for a left wing three pointer, the junior sharpshooter nailed the shot, giving the Lady rams a 43-41 lead with under three remaining.
The Tinora D forced two consecutive turnovers on Antwerp, turning that into another great possession, taking more time off the clock. Although no points resulted for the Rams, they took precious time off the clock.
On the Archers nest possession with just under two minutes remaining, on a shot attempt to take the lead, Coppes was whistled for her third straight offensive foul, her fifth overall foul, exiting her from the contest.
The Lady Rams again worked for the perfect shot, still leading by just two, 43-41, Emily Harr hit Anna Gray with a great backdoor pass, giving Tinora a 45-41 lead with just over 60 seconds remaining.
The Tinora D would close out the Archers, getting a much-needed win, 46-41 as the Archers struggled without Coppes on the floor the last 90 seconds..

Tinora improves to 13-8, 4-2 in the GMC and will travel to Edgerton Thursday night to end the regular season.
Antwerp drops to 12-9, 3-3 in the GMC, the Archers will host Paulding Thursday.
