Paulding 41 Tinora 40

PAULDING – For the older generation who used to spend Saturday night at their grandparent’s house in the 1980’s, most can remember watching Hee-Haw and hearing the gang sing “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.”

This seems to be the theme song for this season’s Tinora Rams basketball team.

Heading to Paulding for the second time this season to take on the Panthers, the Rams looked to reverse their fortunes. Tinora was defeated by Paulding in a non conference game at the State Bank Holiday Classic back on December 28, 44-43, another last second defeat.

Tinora entered with a 4-11 mark, 0-4 in the GMC while the hosts, the Panthers of Paulding came in with a 4-12 mark, 1-3 in conference play.

In a contest where the Panthers played tough, in your face defense, the teams battled throughout the initial quarter with the Tinora Rams leading 6-5.

Quarter two brought much of the same, tough defense by both teams, and timely scoring, the teams headed to the break with the Rams leading at the half over Paulding, 19-16.

In the thirst stanza, Paulding limited the Rams offense to just four points while scoring 11 themselves. Paulding exited the third quarter with a 27-23 lead.

After struggling through the first three quarters, both teams brought their A game in the final eight minutes. Paulding opened up a six point lead early in the fourth quarter, 29-23.
Back to back three pointers by the Rams Lance Rinkel and Luke Harris cut the Panthers lead to just two, 31-29, with just over six minutes remaining.

Seconds later, Tinora tied the game at 31-31 on a pair of Cole Anders free throws.
The next few minutes would see the Rams trying to catch the Panthers, Paulding would keep the cushion to the end.

The Panthers Peyton Adams with four huge points down the stretch, including a three point dagger with just under 50 seconds remaining, giving Paulding a 40-35 lead.

Trailing by four with just seconds to play, Tinora’s Luke Harris nailed a three pointer at the buzzer from the left wing, ending the contest with Paulding coming away with another last second win over the Rams, 41-40.

Harris appeared to be fouled as he was knocked to the deck, but no foul was called as the ball went through the hoop, ending the game with a Panthers win.

The loss is just one of nine losses that has seen the Rams battle to the end, only to fall short in the final seconds.

Tinora falls to 4-12, 0-5 in the GMC. The Rams will travel to Antwerp next Friday to take on the state ranked Antwerp Archers.
